I know it may sound like a noob question, but i would like to know if the saiga 12 can accept 2.75 and 3 inch shells. Also what kind of shells do u guys put through it? I would guess the cheap stuff. It doesnt use the full metal shotgun shells does it (i HOPE NOT). Lastly, where can i get one, for what price, and can they ship it to a ffl dealer near me? Thank you for answering all my dumb questions. :thanks:

Last I heard, the 12 ga. versions atleast will take 2.75 and 3" regular plastic shells. Where you can get them, I don't know right now. For some reason their importation was discontinued. I think EAA made some agreement with remmington and the rights transfered, but remmington wasn't going to import the saiga shotguns. Allegedly there's another company out there that's supposed to start importing them again sometime in the near future. The 12 ga. ones used to go for around 320 or so.

Some company on Ar-15 forums are selling some. You can try to ask them for prices ans other info but don't expect to get an answer from them butt screwing homos.
The 12 ga. does take 3" and 2 3/4" shells. Also heard of some folks using the Aguila mini shells but only as the first round out of the magazine. They say it makes it easier to insert an eight round mag with a closed bolt. Have not tried it yet myself. Another board member here, Tomac has also tried out the steel cased shells in the Saiga and I think they worked out all right for him. It's been awhile since I talked with him though and don't recall exactly what he said.
I've used all kinds of stuff in mine from ultra cheap, low brass practice stuff up 3" mag turkey loads. Slugs, birdshot, buckshot, riot control and low recoil, tactical it eats it all and asks for more. If you shoot Wolf buckshot be advised that stuff is really, really dirty and does not use a shot cup so you get a lot of lead fouling. Stuff really gums up the gas piston. Kind of liking the low recoil, Federal buckshot loads right now for home defense.
Russian American Armory (http://www.raacfirearms.com/) is the new importer of the Saiga. They WON'T be importing eight round mags but hopefully an American manufacturer will come through for us with some eight or ten rounders in the near future.

Mine will eat everything except the cheap red Win. birdshot you get at Walmart in the 100rd value pack. Its loaded so light that even on the no.2 port setting it doesn't have enough PSI energy to throw the empty shell out of the receiver forcefully and it ends up jammed in front of the bolt at least 1 out of 5 shots.

Was your barrel ever shortened? The reason I ask is because I had mine shortened down and had the exact same problem. If you did have it shortened, in order to cure the above problem, you will have to enlarge the gas port openings on the barrel.
Its actually quite easy with a drill press and spare time, but the real fun part is getting the gas block off. I got lucky with mine being somewhat easy, but some arent that lucky.
Best thing to use is a hand sledge and some (I think) bronze punches.
If after doing that it still doesnt work for you, you'll have to either consider adding a 4th gas port hole (just be careful and not drill the other 3 out to where it makes one giant hole), or cutting off a few coils from the recoil springs.
Only reason I am adding my :cents: to what you mentioned is that I was once in your shoes after having my barrel shortened to 18.25" and was wondering why the cheap wally-world ammo wouldnt cycle even when the selector setting was on "2".
Hope this helps,

Nope, standard 22" w/full choke converted to pistol grip. As things loosen up with use it seems to be doing better on the light stuff and tossing the empties a little further instead of dropping them at my feet. If I ever go bird hunting or shoot clays I'll have to stick to Remington Green Box if I want a guaranteed bang every time.
