I was hoping someone could help me properly identify my mauser, with as many details as possible.

it is marked with the following:

MAUSER MODELO ARGENTINO 1891
Deutsche Waffen - UND Munitionsfabriken
BERLIN

also has symbols or proof makrs of what apears to be a "M" and "B" overlaid
each other, and next to that what apears to be 2 hands, engaged in a hand-shake. The overlaid "M and B" appear again on top of the barrel just behind the rear sight, and the "Handshake" symbol just below the rear sight on the left side of the barrel, as you hold the rifle.

mainly what i would like to know:
caliber
country of origin
small or large ring mauser
time period produced if possible to tell

any of the above or other details would be greatly appreciated

thanks in Advance,
Aaron

Aaron, you're describing either a Mauser Model 1891 Rifle or Model 1891 Carbine used by Argentina. The Rifle had a 29.13" barrel while the Carbine had a 17.63" barrel. There were about 180,000 rifles and 30,000 carbines made. Most were manufactured by Ludwig Loewe & Co. with some being made by DWM, both located in Berlin, Germany, for the country of Argentina. These were all chambered in 7.65x53mm Mauser (http://www.again.net/~steve/jpg/cd765x53.jpg) using a small-ring action (0.980"). The Model 1891 rifle & carbine were produced from 1891-1909 when it was replaced by the Model 1909 which was based on the Gew 98 design. Hope this helps!
