Here's a Thompson/Center .50 cal caplock I built from a kit about 20 years ago.

The kits from the big manufacturers are pretty straight forward. They pull those parts off the assembly line before final assembly. There usually isn't much inletting to do and no real wood removal to shape the stock.

The best kits, however, come from places like Jim Chambers and Track of the Wolf. They use the highest quality parts, but there is whole lot more work to do. You will have to dovetail slots for the underlugs/sights, remove wood to shape the stock here and there, finish all the metal, etc.

I'd start with a few of the commercial ones, but if you like it you may want to move up to the others eventually.

thanks for the response guys
I will probablly go with a pre-built to start out with and buy a kit if I get hooked on bp shooting ( I am sure I will!) then I will start on making my own ( alot like the ak's)
