Hi, I'm new to shotguns and to this side of the forum. I've got a box of ShurShot Field Load from Remington. It's for 12 gague, 2 3/4 length, 3 1/4 DREQ, 1 1/8 oz shot, 7 1/2 shot. What is this good for? Can I use it for home defense? TIA!
At close range (across the room) you can use almost any 12 ga. load for home defense, however your shells were designed as a dove/quail/small game hunting load. It is also a good informal clay bird load. It can be used in any 12 ga. shotgun in good condition designed for smokeless powder and with a 2 3/4 or longer chamber. Welcome to the smart side of TGN. ;)

Shoot a guy closer than 20 meters. Any further and the more likely you'll just piss him off.
Well 20 meters is about 65 feet. There is not a room in my house that long or wide. The longest shot I could take inside my house is 33 feet. That is from the out side wall of my family room, up a flight of 6 stairs, to the wall the living room shares with the garage. Now, I like 4 buck for home defense, but I wouldn't feel helpless with 7.5 shot. ;)

At 33 feet the 7.5 shot will work. Of course you can always do the alternative- pull the shot out and replace with rock salt. At 33 feet that rock salt will have that perp screaming for help. He ain't gonna get away!
