View Full Version : I know how to make this board toke off.

I put this Idea in the suggestion box at the AK side too. Why not make the General forums universal so that if you come to the AR board, or the AK Board, or the MBR board, you see the same GD, the same GWD, the same lounge, roadhouse, RKBA, etc? This way, each board would have its own specialized forums, but all of the boards would share traffic in the general forums.

I tend to agree. I think many folks have the AK forum itself bookmarked and not the gunsnet main page. Most folks don't know to click on the little "forums" link or even care to.

Maybe I'm the oddball, but I kind of like the seclusion away from the typical AR vs AK threads, and all the AR hating BS that floats around the AK side.

While I hate the inactivity, it's almost a double edged sword.

That stuff is easily moved though. What these board need is traffic. That is how we get sponsors and access to more info. Warrifles is set up with Everyting on one page, and look how they are taking off. I don't go there much because everyone I know is here, but the place is bigger every week. Also, Arfcom seems to be dying. I have never like that clicky little serority very much anyway, but the assholes over there who make up the "In Crowd" are not doing much for new membership.

Fixed it for you. ;)

And Arfcom's big problem is their attitude. They are chasing away a good amount of contributors and some rather special folks because of all the flaming and infighting. It's honestly NOT a friendly, helping place. I certainly would be afraid to post anything there if I were a newb and mature, professional people do not want to be a part of that kind of thing.

I tend to agree though. This site is far too spread out with too many individual forums that do not get enough traffic to warrant them.

But then arnt we just inviting the crap that happens at [b]ARF?

Move all forums to one page, get a bunch of new members, members begin bikkering, then we got an [b]ARF of our own!

As they say "with Great power Comes Great resposibility"

I don't see why the AR and AK forum really NEED to be seperate units. Inside the AK forum you have different thread groups for romanians, bulgarians, ect. Why can't you have a main lobby that simply has different threads for AR lovers and AK nuts.

Also, on an unrelated matter. I used to be one of those AR bashers, and have finally come around thanks to being able to voice my opinion and listen to the opinions of others. If I had not been able to express my dislike of the weapon to those who were more familiar with it than myself, I probably would have never come around to liking them. Guns are just like anything else in the sense that segregation is NOT the answer.

Ubersoldate, I would have figured that from your new avatar. Fat Freddie's cat is known mainly to the few, the proud, & the stoned. Even if the "stoning" part happened many moons ago, like myself.

Glad to see there are still a few folks out there keeping alive the memory of the FFFB ! :big:

My favorite was the cockroach war with Fat freddies cat!

One of my greatest material possessions, they sit in my safe, in plastic bags.
3 FFFB comics that my father carried with him in VietNam.
They are ratty, torn, dirty and yellow, one with a note from my grandmother written on the cover saying.
"if you smoking the pot over there, you might as well stay"
:lol2:

Couple pages missing that my pop said he used for Toilet paper!

Over the years, Ive noticed whenever my life feels like its in the shitter, Ill sit and read them and try to imagin a 18 year old kid reading them sitting in some stinking baracks or jungle, and suddenly my life aint that bad..

I will pass them on to my son one day.

That would be a good idea. I just sit on the home page and refresh it from time to time. It works for me.

This is my first post and I might receive some flak for it... I hope not. I belong to a couple other forums and have for several years, the others are mainly hunting and fishing sites.

The thing that I noticed about this site is that it is HUGE!!!!. I have never seen a discussion board that has users with 10's of thousands of posts (maybe I am sheltered) and with sooooo many different forums. This is a massive site, It is difficult as a newbie to navigate. I own a nice collection of guns... handguns, rifles and shotguns. I love them all and can't really say that I love any one better then the other and in fact I love most of the ones that other users have shown on here just as much as my own... The difficulty is with having to jump around through so many different forums to keep up with whats going on. If I was only an AK lover and couldn't give a rats a$$ about and AR15 then it would be great but as a lover of just about anything that isn't down right junk, and being new, I have found it difficult to navigate and to find a spot to land at.

Maybe this will change with more navigating practice and with getting more comfortable with the set up of the site and more familiar with the different forums. I certainly don't expect anything to be changed on my behalf just simply stating my experience as a brand new user. If it helps in any way great if it hurts then please accept my apology it was not intended and if it does neither then ?? fuck it, it was good for 1 closer to 50 :upset: .

One advantage to being a large site is that you can have just about any question you want answered and if you ask a question in the wrong forum you'll be pointed in the right direction (usually politely :D).

After a couple of visits you'll get a feel for which section has the most info for what but for weapons related questions, the General Weapons Discussion on the AK side is a good starting point.

Large forums do have their advantages, but there's nothing quite like the tightly formed cliques of the small elitest forums.

Ahhh..... Good times....

I love this forum and the moderators do a great job at answering questions in the different places in here.I have had alot of time off lately so I have been in here alot and I have noticed no matter how little traffic there is in a particular section the questions get answered.there are alot of different places but it makes it easier in some ways because you can see responses in less traffic areas by browsing down through the list. I dont know if that made sence or not but I like it here, keep up the good work.. :salute:

Happy to help.

Oddly enough our job isn't to answer a question, but just to make sure it does get answered by someone. Whether by keeping a thread alive and active long enough or pointing the user in a better direction. Course, if we can help answer the question, then by all means, we do ;)

Thanks for sticking around Bucky. This side definately needs all the active posters it can get.

The wonderful thing about this place is the depth of the site. It extends past what you can see. There is a history of hundereds of thousands of posts that you can search for and view. On top of that there are hundereds of specified forums that are practically tailored to the question you have at hand. This makes it easier for people who are "lurking" around looking for things to answer to have a general idea of what they're getting into before opening a current thread in an active forum.

I see you've made a few posts since this first, and I hope you stick around. The first 100 posts are the hardest, and once you pass 1000 this place gets more addictive than cocaine. From then on, it's like chatting with friends.

I've met a LOT of people on this site. Quite a few in person too. It's a great place with a great group of members. I enjoy it here a lot.
