What grain for varmint/target shooting?

Is the 55 grain the best for varmint shooting ? How about target shooting ? Just looking for something to hold a good group.

I use Sierra 52 Gr HPBT Match bullets in all 3 of my Colt ARs. I think it's the best for any occausion. I also carry 55 Gr FMJ for the range moochers.

What is the twist rate? 1-9? If so, the 50-60 grn bullets should be fine. 55 would be the most common.
