View Full Version : rebarrel Yugo M48A
I was thinking about rebarreling my M48A mauser from 8MM to 22-250 I know the case head is the same diameter so hopefully I won't have to modify the bolt. My question is the reciever strong enough and has anybody heard of this being done before are there any problems with doing this. Any info on this subject would be appreciated thank you
The reciever is plenty strong. Midway USA has barrel's for Mauser 98s but I don't know if the threads are the same in an M48. Sounds like a decent conversion to me. ;)

Yugo Mauser is plenty strong, stronger than wartime produced German Mausers and stronger than older Mausers.

I rebarreled a m48 to 30-06 no problems at all. standard large ring mauser barrels work on the m48. . you will notice there is a relief cut on the face of the chamber on the m48 when you remove the barrel, I did not cut one on the new barrel and it works like a charm, enough people say you should as say you shouldn't so I just kept it simple (remember that reamer can take off more than you expect with every turn so go slow chambering)

No joke on the chamber reamer,it will ruin your headspace if you go in there just gutting the chamber too quickly.
I like the hand reamers with the pilot and I like to sit in front of the TV and apply barely more pressure than the weight of the reamer and plenty of oil checking it regularly until I see the last guage almost drop then I get out the finish reamer and go one revolution at a time until it's absoluteley perfect.
A while back I borrowed a 308 reamer from a buddy and it looked like it had been used as a hammer on it's cutting faces and he had only cut one rifle with it while my reamers look brand new after half a dozen rifles now that I own my own!
Be careful who you loan your reamers to;)
