I recently went to the range and test-fired my latest acquisition, an IBM carbine. It seems to be in good condition; Good bore, stock and metal are relatively blemish-free. However, I've got a problem. I'm a left-handed shooter, and every fourth or fifth round the ejected case bonks me right in the forehead. Do I have a bad extractor or spring, or is this just one of those little quirks I have to live with?

SOunds like you need a new Extractor and Ejector spring.

How does the extractor itself look?

It appears to be intact and not very worn, but I can manipulate it pretty easily with my fingertip. I think maybe the spring is shot.

I had one that did the same thing......FOrhead shots with hot brass.

MY Suggestion BUY THE M1 Carbine Bolt assem/disassembly tool.

Thanks for the tip. I guess I'll be on the phone with Sarco tomorrow.

I had a friend that had one of those when I was in Vietnam (I don't know where he got it) but the had the same problem. He had no parts but it seemed dependable in spite of that unfortunate trait. :dunno:
