I have had two 10/22 ruger carbines and I have had a lot of cycling problems when I use inexpensive ammo. Recently I have switched to "Peters" brand ammo and the problem is totally gone. I have read an article that modifies the ejector which is supposed to cure the cycling problem but given the fact that just plain better ammo does it-->does it really help to modify the ejector?

Just spend an extra $1 or 2 for Ammo.
Mine hated lots of ammo so I bought Higher velocity stuff and didnt have a prob ceot loading those tiny mags with big fingers.

Rimfires a notorious for being ammo sensitive, so let's get some basic info...:D
Did they have this problem all the time or only when new, during break in?
Did it matter how many rounds into the range session it would happen?
Cheap, bulk pack ammo doesn't help because the charges can be inconsistent and the powder seems to be dirtier IMO.
Quality ammo helps but MAY NOT be a cure all. As an example, my Mosquito eats Rem bulk pack and Dynapoints with no problem but HATES Wolf MT.
As far as modding the extractor, I'd almost be willing to get a replacement from VQ or someone like that to avoid screwing up a part and having to replace it anyway.

Heres the info
It worked the same on both carbines. They did it when they were new and they did it after they were broke in.
it started the minute that anybody started shooting. It happened when the tube was hot of cold.
The cheap ammo was very dirty. the residue was white and powdery (lots of it)
A buck or two more for a brick is nothing to me but I have run out at the range and bummed some cheap stuff from my buddies with the same result. But: for the price ($11.00) that Peters stuff really works well.
thanks guys

I rarely have any feeding issues, and when I do, its using my 25 round butler creek mag. The factory mags have never given me one problem. Ive got thousands of rounds of bulk winchester and federal, and some nice CCI's through my basic wally world issue 10/22.
I saw the peters on the shelf, but what makes it any different than regular remington?

Some of the bulk ammo I used was so cheap it didn't even fire most of that was Federal Seems you have to pat $11 before you get into something dependable. As for the Peters--> I saw some on the ammo shelf and after trying it I never went back to that other stuff. I had never even heard of Peters before that.

The Peters name is really old, made by remington. Actually they have a giant R on the back of the .22 casings. The ones I saw looked darker on the nose than standard rem ammo, I might have to try some. My 22/45 is picky about ammo. On the bulk stuff, maybe we get it a bit more fresh here since there is a big Remington factory right down thw road
