Found this link. Didn't realise the Israeli's used the Ruger 10/22 for riot controll. Looks like they limited it's use because they found it was rather lethal with upper body shots.
Now it's supposedly issued to SF troops as a hush puppy to silently take out dogs before going in. lol

Doesn't surprise me at all.
The US military used suppressed High Standard's from WWII through VN (and beyond I'd imagine) for the same type of "silent" work against guards both human and critter.
And for our readers that aren't familiar with "silencers" other than what they've seen in the movies, they aren't silent. They are correctly known as sound suppressors, sound moderators or cans depending on the part of the world you're in and the company you keep.;)
A supressor drops the decibel of the shot and probably it's greatest asset is that it keeps a shot from sounding like gunfire most of the time. If nothing else, it makes the sound (and therefore the shooter) more difficult to locate precisely.

I dunno silencers always make noise in the movies. lol
But yeah it cuts it down the bolt noise, and a little poof.
We used to make silencers for our paintball guns back in the woods ball days. Really messed people up with a little distance and cover. Turned it into a light poof sound and didn't give you that give away C02 puff out the barrel.

Me, on a Form 1. Did it several years ago and didn't think to take any pics. It has actually gone through several rebuilds to the form us see here. First gen was just a ported barrel with an overtube. Sounded like a cap gun and had a lot of muzel flash in the dark. Knew I could do better. Gen 2: Came up with an idea for a series of expansion chambers after the terminus of the muzel. Talk about quiet!! wow! BUT: too darn long. Gen 3: Cut the barrel down and changed the port design, and tweeked the expansion chamber design. Using a cheep RadioShack Sound pulse meter I'm a full 20 decabils quieter that anything I've seen published (measured with sound meter 1m in front of the muzel and 1m below the muzel) and cannot detect ANY muzel flash in the dark!! Using the experiance I've gathered on that project I'm now working on something new. A suppressor based around a 308 cal Mauser VZ-24 is currently in the works - this time with pics. If your interested here are the links to parts 1 and 2.
