I recently saw advertised some cat selling an Enfield rebarreled to .50 BMG (Single Shot of course)...
That got me thinking...
Of the C&R guns out there, which has the absolute strongest action?
I want to build a .416 Rigby, and would like to use a mil-surp action if possible.
Any reccomendations?
Thx

(BTW- My C&R should be here any day now :D )

The M1916 Spanish Carbine :D
No seriously, I'm not sure. The Yugo Mausers have a pretty strong action, very heavy duty bolt. I'm not sure what that Rigby can do.

REDSTAR is right about those Yugo bolts. They're very solid, heavy hunks of steel. But would it be safe? I don't have any idea. This is one for Schuetzenman to figure out. ;)

I would imagine any large ring Mauser action would work. I don't know which is considered the strongest though. The French MAS 36 action has been referred to as Massive in design and I have heard of people rebarreling them to 45-70 with some success. Not quite the same league though as the Rigby.

Most large ring mauser actions(the 98). But not stuff like the turks. The turks are a large ring but have small ring threads. Gun parts corp sells up to a 300 WM barrel and I bet the mauser could handle up to .416 (if not more). I have a lot of old american rifleman mags and they rebarreld the 98 into all kinds of big game cartirges. The 2 locking lugs on the mauser is also a plus.

In my opinion the U.S. Model 1917 (I have seen some say only use the Remington or Winchester receivers vs. the Eddystone). Second I would say the 98 Mauser
I've seen more custom big bore rifles for sale built on this action than any other.
Heck search one day for custom rifles in gunsamerica....some guy there now selling a .500 Mag rifle built on that receiver.
Mc Uzi, if you like like big bore check out ...http://www.accuratereloading.com/videos.html
Bunch of Arabs and visitors shooting the .577 Tyrannosaur
You should also check out that website in general if you like Big bore.
