i have a mini 14, ilove it. hardly any recoil, willshoot all day no problems. in my part of the, this rifle is very affordable. the only drawback ican tell, you should be good with your hands. kind of hard to clean. lots of parts lots of practice. but it is so swweet to shoot. ihave had mine for 13 yrs. never a problem with premium or surplus ammo. the sights can be better ,probably have improved. plus it is real easy to make it one of those UGLY guns they banned. folding stocks, flash hider/brake,20/30 rnd mags. make
it black. it is just like the rem 870,put it togeather anyway you want. mini 14 yes

I like my Mini-14. Not the most accurate. But it is very reliable and well built. The older Ranch rifles and the new Mini-14's have the built in scope mounts. I have the old style, reg. sights. Stainless 1 in 9 twist. One of my brothers has an older one with the 1 in 7 twist barrel. I don't know if the twist rate makes the difference but his is more accurate than mine. If you plan on using a scope, I suggest getting the Old Ranch model or one of the brand new ones.
Ahhh.... The mini-14, my first simi auto (centerfire). I was just a wee lad living in the woods of Ak when my ..... sorry, lost my train of thought. There is a mini-14 forum already isn't there (c&r forum). Great idea, I love both of mine.

O.K. all, thanks for the input...as for "Pit-Dog", I would guess he's still mad at Ruger for some anti-gun decision they made a long time ago. I remember something, but not the details. Or maybe he's had a bad experience with Ruger. He has his right to say what he feels, this is America.
There is a very good board about our fine little rifle @perfect union bbs, I was told about it by "Tomac" in another thread that I posted here with the same topic.
Look in General Discussions forum...............thanks again.
