Johnny, my records show your Winchester Model 94 was made in 1940. From a collector's point of view, any refinishing will diminish it's value. If you're not worried about value and plan on keeping it as just a shooter then refinishing might be okay. Just my $0.02.

I called a gun historian at winchester and was informed it was made in 1937.I was hopeing it was older but its at least pre-war.I share your opinion about refinnishing .My concern is that the rust will slowly dimminish its value.Any suggestions would be appreciated.Thax for the kind welcome Mace

JMO, use some lite steele wool on the rust and DO NOT do any refinishing!
Enjoy the old bird and care for it as normal.
Just my own thoughts.

Remove the rust . Use am old worn out brass bore brush & Hoppies # 9 .

Then for long term storage , use grease or paste wax ( on the outside ) , instead of oil .

It's one of the few guns that the more worn they are, the better they look. I prefer one that is worn-looking. Just keep her well oiled and clean.
