I saw an article in Shotgun News about 10/22 customizing. A 10/22 had been customized so a person can clean the bore from the breech out to the muzzle in order to save accuracy. This was done by drilling a hole in the back of the receiver to allow the cleaning rod to pass through. Is this really worth the trouble, or is it a sales tactic? Thanks all.

Most of the 10/22 barrel manufacturers state that cleaning rods should not be used to clean the barrel. Save yourself the drilling headache, and simply by a Boresnake pull through cleaning kit by Hoppes'.
This kit will eliminate any risk if dinging the lands or hurting the crown.

+1 on the Boresnake! After my initial cleaning of a used rimfire, 99.9% of my barrel cleaning is done with the 'snake.
