Found one at a gunshow today. Marked as a Russian M-44, but all markings are in chinese. Even stamped as being made in China.
Rare? Common? worth the overpriced 75 bucks that he wants?

I have sine and shot one CHI-COM M-44. I liked it. The front sight post are more robust than a Russian. What condition is it in??? That says Alot about price. If it has good blueing, bayonet still able to extend and a strong chamber and bore, I would say it is fair. 8dDUCE.

I ment seen. If you do not have a C&R it is fair, some M-44's can be found in good to v. good condition for alot less. About $50.00 or so, but after you include shipping plus the wait, $75.00 don't seem too bad. IF it IS in GOOD condition. 8dDUCE.

I paid $75 for mine. It's in VG shape, good bore, all matching and no importer marks. It's got the early factory 296 mark, a 296 with a line going down from the top of the two down connected to an underline of the three digits. Kind of like an upside down long division symbol. Factory 296 is the 'triangle 26' factory.
These are actually called Type 53 Carbines by the Chinese.
I don't see them around much.
They aren't C&R either so it won't matter if you have a license or not.

Damned that was fast!!!!!
Thats why people ask questions here I guess.
The rifle is in about good condition from what I saw. I will go back tomorrow and check the bore and look closer. (actions ziplocked)
I have been wanting a Mosin for awhile, but I'm not a big fan if anything Chinese, but, I may have to talk myself into it. Didn't have to do much talking to myself a few years back when the chines sks's were so cheap.
Thanks guys

CHI-COM's are pretty DAMN good weapons. I have a few, and I have NO problem buying ANY CHI-COM weapons. I like all firearms, and CHI-COMS are sometimes a really good buy for the money. Do not make the mistake of thinking the Chiniese is cheap. They do have one if not THE BIGGEST military forces (INFANTRY) in the world. They have ALOT of practice at making weapons. 8dDUCE.

I agree. I tell my wife all the time: the only Chinese products this household will buy are Chicom weapons!
I love my Chicom AK's and SKS's.

These are not C R eligible. Polical reasons.

100% matching and Vg condition carbines are difficult to find these days. $75 is a great deal, is yours all matching? I have never paid under $100 for one. Check and see if it is import marked, alot of these came back from 'Nam and the GI's, I guess sold them off or something. Many or non-imports.
Nice find. JW

Well
I went back today to grab it, but someone already beat me to it. Guess thats what I get for sittin on my ass.
Not trying to slam Chinese weapons, my first AK was a China underfolder (made a killing on that one in 94), just wanting a Russian or European one for some reason. (still have some Chinese SKS's)
Thanks for the info
