My buddy has a Saiga rifle in 7.62x39. He is willing to sell it to me for $200. I am pretty much Saiga illiterate and I have tried to learn some things about them on the internet but I'm having a tough time answering a few questions. I hope you guys don't mind helping out a newbie. I would like to change the stock over to the regular AK type configuration....You know a buttstock with a pistol grip. I'm not a gunsmith and I'd like to be able to do it myself cheaply. Now, I know it's possible to do this but I'm just wondering exactly what the most simple way to do it is. Also what do you have to do to put a dragunov stock on one? Can you just get one of the regular AK drag stocks from ATI and put it on a Saiga? What exactly would be involved in the conversion(if one is needed)? Does anybody sell drag type stocks made for the Saiga and if so could somebody be so kind as to point me in that direction? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

Here is a good place to start.

All you really need is a dremel and a drill. Having an end mill for the dremel comes in handy also.

Yep. If you get the gun set up to take a standard stock, no special mods are needed for the dragunov stock.

If the hole for the pistol grip nut isn't already cut, it might be easier to just put on a dragunov stock, because they don't use the whole nut and screw set up because there is no pistol grip.
