Just a quick take of my Russian Mak Hi-cap. It's pretty much bone stock so yes, it sux double action, yes, it still has the odd Izh grips, and yes the trigger vibration is bad. I like it anyway though! :D

The top one is mismarked Russian. It shows some bluing wear but is otherwise in great shape. I especially love the purple hammer, disconnector and extractor. The bottom one is a middle run Bulgie that came in 100% unissued condition. I paid $133 out the door each.
Edited because Yahoo is fucked up
Hmmm I also see that at the bottom of the page that *[IMG] code is off.

I paid $80 for the one in the pic, but it came by its lonesome -- no holster, cleaning kit, xtra mag, etc.
I've seen more Bulgies than anything else recently. There were also bunch of E. German Maks with burgundy holsters for awhile. I wouldn't go higher than $150 for either of these with the accesories, or above $100 without.

Mine...
Unissued military Bulgarian and an Uncle Mike holster. Replaced the red bakelite military grips (but kept them for posterity and for when I feel historical) and put on more comfortable Pierce rubber grips.

Three of my four Miltex Special Editions. First is high-polish blue in 9x17(.380), second is chrome plated (factory) in 9x18, third is high-polish blue in 9x18. Since this picture was taken I have added another Miltex SE, two-toned finish; blued frame and chrome slide in 9x18. All have factory squared trigger guard, doted sights, finger-rest mags, ect...

I thought you stole that pic from the head bunker site until I remembered that it's your site..........lmao.......my bulgarian should be here on monday from SOG.........I didn't waste my $10 on hand pick I'd rather spend the $10 on ammo.

You guys have me interested. Tell me a bit about this little beauties. What caliber do they usually come in? Where can I get one? How reliable are they? Where's my wallet? Oh sorry, that one was for my wife.
Any help would be appreciated.

The short of it:
Calibers: 9 x 18 Makarov and .380. 8 round single stack mag, though there are some recent mfg. Russian Maks in 10/12 double stack. They're around at both shows and dealers and $150 or so should get you a Makarov and holster w/ (i think) a little cleaning kit. Most available are Bulgarian though there are some E. German and Russian on the market.
The long of it:
Makarov.com (http://makarov.com/)

The best deal right now is http://www.southernohiogun.com/surplus_hand.html .......someone here turned me on to SOG a couple of weeks ago.........the Bulgarians like the E. Germans have the nicer fit and finish.

I checked it out and they have some good deals. I also talked with my FFL today and he will accept them for me.
Is 9mmx18 ammo hard to find? I only recall seeing 9x19. What's the difference?

No prob ads4u......You can buy the ammo everywhere....sometimes I c dealers that have surplus corrosive 9x18 but the good quality non-corrosive is so common I wouldn't touch the corrosive stuf unless it was a really good deal. It's usually called 9x18 Makarov or 9mm makarov on the ammo boxes...you can rest assured that almost every local dealer in your area will have at least 1 kind of 9x18 in stock and there's tons of places to buy it from for a fair price on the net! 9x19 is regular 9mm Luger ammo that you c in Glocks, Beretta's and a plethora of other handguns.........I'm sure they call 9mm Luger 9x19 as to differentiate from 9x18 Makarov. Most of the dealers in my city sell the reloadable brass cased Makarov ammo for about the same price or a little bit more than 9mm luger:D

I bought one of the .380 stainless threaded bbls...found it runs best with one and one-half coils cut from the recoil spring...wouldn't run right with the 9X18 factory spring...going to cut up the slide for the mini-Novak's next, then to the oven for grey park-color moly-teflon...or maybe the olive-drab moly-teflon...
