Just wanted to finally show the girls some love. Looking for the best deals on accessories for my #1 MK3, and my nagant carbine. Specifically scope mounts ( I really like the side mount job on the nagant), slings any other goodies. Also looking for some tipes on refinnishing the stock of My Nagant. Wood is kinda rough. Anything wrong with taking a belt sander and some good fine paper to it?:o I dont care about the antique look or anything like that as I would rather a clean start so to speak. All tips and resources appreciated.

Dear Sir-I have refinished a 1916 Ses. and M91/30 stock using Minwax Red Mahogany stain and Formby's Tung Oil.Buy some acetone to strip the old finish and go over it with 00 to 0000 steel wool.Apply the stain and wipe off any excess.The first coat of Tung Oil is the toughest,since the solvents in the Tung Oil will try to strip the stain.So use VERY gentle pressure.Put the Tung Oil on VERY thinly with a disposable sponge brush.Once the first coat dries,the following ones are easy.I like Formby's because it dries pretty quickly,is ready to use and yields a durable finish.Don't forget to clean the barreled action and bolt completely with Varsol or Mineral spirits.I do this and then coat everything with breakfree CLP prior to assembly.You also need a cheap set of brass drift pins from CTD to drift the front sight,along with a good sharp center punch to stake the sight once you get the gun sighted in.A good set of hollow ground screwdrivers will help out also (CTD).Wal Mart should have everything you need,or go to a good general hardware store.Don't forget to buy a bolt tool from TAPCO to adjust the firing pin protrusion.The how-to is at www.russian-mosin-nagant.net Rick Reich should have some nice canvas slings also with the correct dog collars.My dollars worth:)-Gearhead.
