Does anyone know what loading the M-44 sights are set for. I've fired all sorts of 7.62x54R loads and none of them follow the sight settings.

The standard 7.62 x 54R Soviet/Comblock heavy ball 'D' round should be approx 182 gr. I suspect you may have some other problem as this was a pretty standard weight. Have you tried firing with the bayo extended? The sights were set on the M44 with the bayo fixed.

How's the bore? Is it crisp and shiny or dull and dark? A worn out bore can put you all over the place. I have a rifle like that.

Could be your front sight too. Is it about centered vertically in the hood? It should be. How about the alignment marks on the front of the sight, are those alligned? That could affect windage.

I have two M-44's. They both shoot 1.5 - 2.0 inch groups at 50 yards. Left to right they are dead on. I've tried the bayo open and closed. It does tighten the groups a hair but it does not change the vertical point of impact.

I think my problem is that I don't have any of the 180 ish grain loads. I usually use Wolfe which is 200 grain. shoots really low. I just got in some Czech silver tip (147 Grain) shoots really high. I've tried the Extra target ammo (200 Grain). It shoots low like the wolfe. I guess I'm going to have to hand load or find some surplus thats 180 ish grains.

Thanks,

Yeah, try some of the comblock surplus, I suspect that will be 180 gr.
