question:
Do you want it for collectors value or do you want it for shooting/defense/practical reasons?
Just for shooting/defense.

I'd say stick with stock.. From what I hear the hi caps are much mor expensive, not as reliable, and have shitty sights. are not military quality, but cheap and made for the wesetern civilian market..
You get a total of 2 extra shots, it's not like you get 5 extra shots or something, just 2. If you need a hi-cap magazine, get another gun, because a makarov is not for a situation when you need that many shots.
just MHO. i've never heard anything good about hi-cap maks

I concur, the mags suck on the hi-caps. Also, they are unweildy to hold onto when shooting.
Stick with the standard.

www.makarov.com has them in there online .pdf catalog. They are $45.00 for a 12 rounder and $19 for a 10 rounder. Personally I like the hi cap maks and they shoot great. I have never shot a "normal" mak that only takes 8 rounds. Hope this helps.

I thought that all (most?) guns from Izmash are of good quality (compared to other eastern countries).
BTW, which Makarovs are the best? Izmash, East Germany,...?

in my previous message I was referring to magazines for the hi cap maks not the guns themselves. Also the Russian gun I have is very high quality, and I have no complaints.

OK sniper 69, I referred to the guns in generall (including the mags) and the post from Buster Charlie I'd say stick with stock.. From what I hear the hi caps are much mor expensive, not as reliable, and have shitty sights. are not military quality, but cheap and made for the wesetern civilian market..

I have a hi cap pistol, and love it. I can only say good about it. As for people hearing nothing but bad things, maybe they had a bad experience with it. All I know is my own experience, and I have never had a jam, misfire or a problem with it feeding from the hi cap magazines. I use whatever 9x18 I can get my hands on and it has done me good. From a purest perspective go with the original 8 rounder. But from my perspective, the hi cap is good and for about $200 (what I paid when even 8 round makarovs were almost $175) I can't complain. It is a lot cheaper than my dream pistol the H&K USP .45 and anymore seems like the ammo is everywhere for them. Hope my opinion on this helps. :)

I have a hi cap Russian Mak made by IMEZ. It is excellent, has adjustable rear sights fuctions flawlessly and is excellent condition. I will sell it if your interested.

aftermarket magazines is what screws everyone up. Stick with the OEM hi-cap mags and everything is fine.
