I'm planning some real neat stuff. My son made me very proud and said he wanted his own AK,at first he wanted a Romy "G" build with the wood vertical. But after seeing an AK-74 he wants one with a folding stock.I'll be getting a Saiga .223 and convert it to an AK-74 clone with 24mm FSB,both lugs and use my 74 mags with .223 followers.I might put some nice red dyed wood hand guards or put the plum or black versions instead.

For me I have two projects.I want to do a .223 rifle with stock trigger, modify to hi-cap mags, feed ramp etc.I want install a 24mm FSB and the Bulgarian tapered flashhider and find some wood furniture for it.I know it would be far more reliable than a Mini-14 and much cooler looking. If a 20" barrel version can be had I'll go for that.

My .308 22" is going to be a real nice looking reliable shooter.I want to convert it to pistol grip, install a 24mm FSB and flashhider, vent the standard hand guard, put a QD stud for bi-pod use and find some way to put on the Magpul PRS stock, that thing is nice looking.

Share you Saiga projects or ideas,I'd like to read them.

I've got a .308 Saiga carbine on the way and it's going to get a pg and buttstock conversion straight away. Then, depending on the barrel dimensions, I am planning on installing a Bulgy fsb and 74-style brake, or a Romanian fsb and 74-style brake, or maybe just move the stock fsb back and thread the muzzle to accept a 74-style brake.... not sure about that.

I am also going to play with converting FAL, G-2 or M-14 mags to work with this rifle.

The carbine needs hi caps :cupjoe:

I know the barrel will need to be turned down for the FSB but if you can press the barrel out and put it in a lathe you can turn it down.

Yes, what I thought - thank you for the info!

That will come after the pistol grip conversion. And I'm only thinking of the brake because of the muzzle flash issue.

This sounds like the perfect excuse to get a small lathe! ;)

So you want a bigger flash then?If you are getting the 22" rifle there is not near as much flash as with the carbine.I think you will end up with more flash with a brake.

I'm not trying to dissuade you from the muzzle brake,I think they are cool as can be.

And I have been told Galil mags are the best for converting the Saiga.I have seen G3 mags in a S-308 as well but I'm not sure how they worked.

I know from my own experience with the G3 mags you need to open the mag well some for those mags to fit.I have not nor do I intend to change mags for my Saiga.I'm just going to order spare 8 rd mags.

I also sent my deposit off for my new replacement wood stocks for my upcoming S-223 to hicap rifle conversion. The stocks are going to look bad ass.

I have decided on the 21" S-223 for conversion.I'm only converting to hicap mags and replacing the FSB with a 24mm FSB so I can have a lug and Bulgarian style flashhider.I might go with a dustcover style AR rear sight from Krebs, remove the old rear sight and mount a short rail for a reflex sight.

Have you seen this pic? This is sorta what I intend for my 22" S-308,only difference mine will use the stock handguard and an Ergo Grip.

I recently aquired a nice wooden VEPR stock and forearm from one of my buds on the Saiga-12 forum. The only Saiga, not including the 30 06, I don't have at least one of yet is the .308. As soon as I can find a good deal on a long barreled one I plan to modify it to fit the VEPR stock and convert it. I'll prolly get a POSP scope and modify an FAL or Dragunov flash hider like the one pictured above to go on it. That looks sweet AK Texas! Tony Rumore at Tromix has found a way to use M-1 mags to get 20 rds I believe so I'll be getting at least one of those and I plan on trying to join at least two factory .308 mags to make a hi cap with the cool factory look. I have already joined S-20 and S-410 mags successfully and seen them done for the S-12 so the .308 shouldn't be any different. I'll prolly mount a small rail for a removable bipod to complete the Dragunov look. The added weight of the wood furniture should help with recoil along with a buffer of course.
Hey AKTexas, can you tell me something about that FSB and hider and what it took to mount it?

I would like to see pics of that project once you get it going.

The FSB is one of the Bulgarian 24mm FSB,you have to turn the barrel down for it to fit on it.The hider is a US made extended copy of the 24mm Bulgarian flash hider. You can get the extended and the normal sized US copy from Elite Firearms.I think for 50-60 plus some shippping.
