I'm interested in any and all opinions regarding the M14. The only place I've seen one for sale for far is Fulton's Armory. I need some feedback guys, plus recommendations on where to buy.

Thanks.

I haven't even seen an M14 since I was in the Navy ten years ago. If you find any let me know!

Fulton has em. Redstar what did you think of the weapon??

Actually they are M1A Springfield Armory rifles. M14 is really reserved for the select fire military issue weapons TheBigCA.

I have a loaded package M1A with carbon steel barrel. I like it just fine! With FNM Portuguese surplus ammo it's about 1.5 min. capable after I put it in a surplus fiberglass stock. It came in a used real M14 stock with the cutout for the selector knob. I still have the stock because it's a beautiful piece of Walnut, but it is not tight enough to give good accuracy.

IMO, get one in a synthetic stock for best accuracy.

I only got to plink off a couple of rounds in basic training. I can't really remember much about it, we didn't get to blast full auto, just shoot about five rounds.

Then we shot a .22 cal 1911, I sucked wind with that.

We got to drill with demilled Garands. Those bastards get heavy after awhile. I think they filled the barrels with lead just to make them more of a burden.

i have an m1a, that count???

it is an ass kicking rifle, more accurate then i am. kicks more then a FAL, but it has better sights and i like the stock better. it has the sweetest trigger in the world to boot. only gripe i have about it is the price of mags $40+.

NeilWest:

You were talking about M14s?? Any ideas where to get one besides Fulton Armory.

Looking to get one.

Ah, Sheutzenman, reread your post. Thanks. M1a = M14. Thanks. This is a purchase that I mentioned, but not for myself. One of three friends who want to acquire C&Rs. Two of em will get their wishes. The other guy won't.

Dealers??

1. M1A's are easy to come by if you have the money. check out the for sale section in this forum. WTS a M1A is I believe the post. They usually run anywheres between 1000.00 on up depending on where you go. I recently got a good deal on a used one. I'll post pics tonight.

2. If you have a FFL you can probably get a better deal though. I would shop around.

3. They are awsome to shoot.

So, these weapons are NOT C&R???

1. They are still being sold as nib weapons. Again the M-14 was the military version, they are still being used in the Navy I know for sure. As such I dont believe you can get one as a C&R gun.

Hmmm. More research to do. Quite frankly I think the guy should get an AK and a SKS, or something, for that kind of cash.

1. They are expensive but beautiful. These are worth about 7 SAR-1's

Yup the prices are up there. Hey, my SAR-1 is priceless to me. :)

Neil, your C&R is coming. I feel it.

1. I was a M1A addict until I got my first AK. As you can see Im on the AK.47. net now.

2. I wouldnt trade my AK either. I would rather own the 7 SAR-1's believe me.

I don't know guys, I own 5 AK system rifles in 3 calibers and I still wouldn't give up my M1A Springfield rifle. Match capable sights, hard hitting round beyond 500 yards, 20 round magazines (I own 20 that I purchased just before the prices went sky high), dependable function, easy to clean.

The M1A and the 7.62 Nato round redefines what is concealment and what is cover.

1. I think you know how much I love my M1A's. But not everybody can afford one. I believe it to be a superior weapon buy any standard, but the price is high for most people.

Damned fine weapon. If buddy wants to get one that bad, looks like he'll have to FFL, since it's not C&R yet, and pay the big bucks. I want to shoot one. :)

Myself, I'll have to stick the the less expensive weapons at this particular point in time.

OK...just making sure my flame proof suit is on....DON'T GET AN M-1A! Bought the "Loaded" model. First one had a reciever that wasn't made right, caused the op rod to pop out every 20 rounds. Sent it back to Springfield. 8 months later I get the replacement. 40 rounds later the bolts comes apart. Sent it to Fulton and they said the headspacing WAS A NO-GO FROM THE FACTORY!!!!! The gas piston had PITS on it AFTER 40 ROUNDS. Had Fulton do a rebuid with genuine GI parts...not the cast garbage that SA is trying to pull off now. The rebuid cost me $600, but worth it. One cannot compare the quality of the GI parts with the cast ones.

2 months ago I pick up an M-1A at a show and the rear arperture was not completely drilled through! Remember...it's Springfield Armory in name only. Do yourself a favor and 1) do not buy a S.A. If it must be S.A. buy the reciever and have Fulton build it for you. 2) get a DSA STG-58 rebuild, or the way I would go 3) get a Garand from Fulton.

Horribly shitty luck on that one Chetnik. I'm now convinced I can buy many, many more weapons for same amount of money. Fun factor will remain the same. The satisfaction of a match grade M14/M1A won't be realized for me until I win the Lottery. :)
