Hey all,

Long time lurker, but figured it was time to come "out". hehe

I just purchased my first 10/22T from a large "outdoors" store in my area. When I broke it down to clean before I went out shooting for the first time I noticed that it appeared to have some powder (and/or lead) fowling in the chamber/reciever/barrel. This is the first gun I've personally ever bought "new" and was wondering if this was normal or whether I just was sold a used gun as new? Note: I have not shot this gun yet...just cleaned.

If I did just get hosed, do you think it's worth it to go complain/return?

Thanks.

Many manufactures will test fire the firearm before shipping. Not sure on Ruger's policy but they probably do. If it looks like accessive shooting you may have a complaint, but if it's just a little it's probably from a test fire.

Oh, Welcome!!!!!

Welcome to the group !!! :welcome:

Like L1A1Rocker said, most manufacturers test fire all there firearms before shipping. Most only one or two rounds, but I don't think any but the most expensive clean them after the test shots.

Thanks guys...I was just a little worried. It wasn't excessively dirty, but obvious that it had been shot. Let the mod's begin!

:welcome:!

I concur with the agreement of the others, 99.9% it's from test fireing before being boxed up for shipping.

Let the mod's begin!
Just for giggles, take it out and see what it will do before modding it. THe T is supposed to be damn good out of the box since after all that's why you're paying the extra scratch over the 10/22 carbine or rifle.

Plus it will give you a baseline to compare future mods against.

Well...I already replaced the trigger to a Kidd Ultimate Match trigger system (1lb two stage trigger) and after dry firing it once or twice will NEVER go back to the stock trigger...but no more mods until I've broken her in a bit.

I'm planning on sending her off to CPC to have some bolt and barrel work done and eventually put either a McMillan thumbhole anschutz stock or a really nice walnut "Blaster" stock by Boyds. I'm not sure if I want to go 100% for accuracy (i.e. the synthetic McMillan stock) or whether I'm willing to sacrifice some accuracy for the beauty of a nice walnut stock.
