Spotting Scope?

Do you have a price range? From my limited experience, I suggest getting the best optics you think you can afford. I bought a $100 Winchester 12-50x50 scope & there's plenty of zoom, but not enough clarity. I'm thinking I might go to one of the entry level Kowa scopes. I believe I've read some good things about Nikon as well.
