I don't know about anybody else, but I like it because they are reliable... and your holding a piece of history from the demise of the soviet union...that is if you have a military one.
History, reliability, accuracy and inexpensive.

Reliable, accurate, easy to shoot, inexpensive. They are by no means cheap.

LOL, I would rather have the stick than an M9. I absolutely hate the pizza pistols. They do make damned fine shotguns though.

If you haven't shot one yet, I would recommend that you try one.
I have a EG Mak, with fixed sites. It is one fine weapon.
Well made, extremely accurate. Most of the time you can
find one under $200.
Just try to find one to shoot you'll see. ;)

Not much to add -- very sound comments. Yes, if back in combat and had to carry an issue-type pistol, I'd take an M-9 again easily: it worked for me.
However, here in Fort Retirement in sunny FL, the compact, incredibly reliable, rugged, inexpensive and accurate PM, when stuffed with quality defensive loads suits me fine.
Would I carry one of my souvenir cherry DDR bring backs --no way. A nice Bulgarian fitted with Novak Mustang-type sights, the Suhler ssafety mod and a reworked trigger is just the ticket.

IMHO, the ak of pistols--always work, fairly accurate, inexpensive and really russian!

The AK of pistols, plus they hit what you point at, are all milled/forged steel, make an excellent CCW gun, and are really the only handgun you need if you aren't into handguns.
All that combined with $150 or less and the fact they are the official gun of the KGB makes them a nice collector item, too.
Did I also mention THEY DON'T JAM?:D
