Dear Fellow Members-Received a 1945 Izhevsk M-44 from AIM today.Very nice!Dark bluing with nice reddish-brown stock and clean bore.Unfortunately, the front sight was so loose that it was about 3/4 drifted off!I pushed it back to the center scribe mark with my fingers!Could've staked it,but decided to send it back, since I paid $10.00 hand pick.Oddly enough ,the gun was double boxed and there was NO trauma to the packaging!I'm sure the next one will be just as nice if not better. My .02 worth:)-Gearhead.

Now I'm convinced that the extra dollars for handpick mean nothing but extra profit for the dealers - the service we pay for, and don't receive. Fuck that. I'll never pay the hand pick fee. If I get a bad product, I send it back.

I absolutely agree.......I could understand if it was something little that they obviosly overlooked but a sight bent that bad and a box in perfect shape......PLEASE. Well it's possible at least with AIM that hand-pick is a waste of money......it's possible that your situation was an isolated incident gearhead222 but I doubt it!

ItalianFire,
He said it was "drifted off" as in slid over in the dovetail cut of the base. Not bent.
IMO, I'd have taken out the front sight then take a Center punch and put one or two dots inside the dove tail in the bottom of the cut. The dots will raise up a small ring of metal that will push up on the sight dovetail and tighten it in the cut. This is an old gunsmiths technique that goes back forever in time. Nobody would know the modification was done because they wouldn't be visible from the outside. Would have saved $10 to $15 bucks in postage back.
 Next time try consulting me first and see if there isn't an easy to do fix for what ails your purchases. Could save $$'s and time.

Dear Sir-Got an M91/30 from AA that shot about 1 foot high!Ordered some different length sight posts from Fragger on another board, drifted in a .030 over and got her to shoot about 2 " low.Mated a 1915 Barreled Tula action to a refinished 1916 Sestroretsk stock and she shoots 3-4 " at 300 feet:)I could have staked the M-44 sight,or dimpled the inside, or used lock-tite or crimped the base, but I'd rather start off with a tight sight that I just have to drift and possible stake to keep the deflection fixed. The UPS shipping cost me $8.00 and I know that AIM will deliver another rifle just as good if not better.Partly because I'm a perfectionist, partly because I paid the hand pick fee,and partly from a moral standpoint (ie-this was NOT hand selected too well),I sent the gun back.Thanx all the same:)-Gearhead

Dear Schuetzenman-Yeah,it's genetic and irreversible!:)Did call Chris and he said that he'd take care of it for me.My babies are so well cared for that I put wheel bearing grease in all of my bores and coat with CLP once a year! Will let you know how the next M-44 turns out.Take care all:)-Gearhead.
