Went to www.odcmp.com and printed out the firearms and ammo purchase packages. These give you all the poop on what to do to qualify to purchase an M1 Garand. I've got the DD-214 to meet the training quals so all I needed was a club affiliation. For $20 a year I chose the Garand Collectors Association in Angola, IN. You get newsletters all year and most important the membership card that the CMP wants to see. I mailed my application and $20 check last Thursday and got my packet of stuff and membership card today. Now when I get the money together at the end of the month all I need to do is get one statement notarized, make some copies and mail everything with my check to the CMP. My Danish Garand should be coming 2-3 weeks later. If you guys are interested I'll post when I mail everything off, when they email me the serial number of the rifle I'm getting (can research the number over at www.jouster.com before it even arrives), and give a report and pics when it shows up. I'm going to start renting WWII movies and watch for the clips popping out of the Garands.:p

The little woman saw my package from the GCA. She said, "Looks like your ready to get the Garand." I told her as soon as I got my bonus at the end of the month the check was in the mail. Her response was, "Why would you want to get it after Xmas instead of before?" Pause, (sound of clothes hitting the floor, heavy breathing followed by screams of joy for 20-30 minutes) no I was thanking her not freaking out. Yes sir gentlemen, this fellas gittin a Garand early. I'll do the Notary thing tomorrow and use the CC so I can eliminate any wait for the check to clear. Can I get it by the 24th? Positive vibes Moriarty, positive vibes.

Yes, my wife.

Shawn, I'll get some posted as soon as it gets here. Ordered 400rds of M2 ball also. I hear that tends to take a while to receive. Hope they aren't out. Gotta order some clips for sure now. That's cool, I'll finally have a rifle that takes clips and not mags.

Congrats Richard on taking a step towards a great rifle! I have 3 Garands from CMP. When you pick one up you can just feel the history oozing out of it. ;)

Slag, have you shot that M1A Super Match yet? If so how did it perform?

That Super Match is still a virgin. Need to find some time, and a good range. BTW, that Super Match is the same one I asked you about at the Raleigh Gun Show in November. I broke down, and took it home with me :D

I just got a Remington 1903A3 to sit beside my DCM Springfield Garand and my Underwood M1 Carbine -- now if i could just afford a BAR , an Iver-Johnson a Thompson, and ........you get the idea -- I want them all!

You're right about the history thing. When you hold one you can almost imagine yourself there with all those heroes. These are great guns and great pieces of history -- we're lucky to own them!!!

YOU SHOULD BE OK. I DID NOT SEND IN MY DD 214. I SENT IN A COPY OF MY DISCHARGE CERTIFICATE AND THAT WORKED ALONG WITH A COPY OF MY BIRTH CERTFICATE, DL, SS CARD AND THE COPY OF THE SPORTS SHOOTING CLUB MEMBERSHIP. I PUT MY ORDER IN LAST JUNE 2002 AND GOT MY DANISH SPRINGFIELD, US SPRING FIELD AND H&R M1 GARANDS ABOUT THREE MONTHS LATER. AND MY INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER AND WINCHESTER WAS PUT ON BACK ORDER AND I JUST GOT A E-MAIL FROM CMP THAT I WOULD GET BOTH BACK ORDERS ABOUT JAN. 15 2003. SO THE WHOLE STORY IS ON THE M1 GARANDS DEPENDING IT THEY STOCK IT NOW OR NOT YOU CAN BET ON WAITING 3 TO 6 MONTHS TO RECEIVE OR LONGER. AND TRUST ME EVEN IF THEY STOCK IT YOU CAN BET ON WAITING BECAUSE THEY ARE BEHIND ALL THE TIME. THE WAIT IS WORTH IT. CMP ARE GOOD PEOPLE TO WORK WITH AND THEY TELL YOU HOW IT IS WHEN YOU TALK TO THEM WITH HONESTY. NO RUN A ROUNDS:)

MUFUNGO,
Welcome to the forums. We hope to see you posting in the future. :D

I don't know if anybody has mentioned it but typing all in capital letters is the internet equivallent of shouting and is considered bad form when posting.:)

OK, that is a opinion as there is no rule of law to that. However I respect your comment and will stop using capital letters on this forum. Excuse me. :)

This link will give you a "fillable" file in Acrobat format. That means you can type your order on the form then print it out, rather than handwriting it in. Makes it nice & neat.

Check your local laws - in Cali I doubt it. CMP regs are trumphed by state and local laws.

do they send these rifles directly to your house, or do you have to have to recieve them via an FFL holder?

Is there a list of gun clubs that the CMP reconizes?

thanks

RevJoel

I sent off my paperwork yesterday for a service grade garand, I added sticky note asking for a post war barrel (I need a shooter) So now I wait....day 1.

Well, its now Sept.20th ...Day 10, no word from CMP, nothing on the e-store. I guess the rush of orders for the M1 "Specials" may have them swamped with orders ...so I am still waiting. I guess I am lucky that I can open the safe and sneak a peek at 3 others while I wait.
