I'm a new member and I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the Remington model 710? Any input would be great thanks.

Remington Model 700 BDL

soggymoccasin, I guess I'm too old fashion when it comes to firearms. In the case of the Remington Model 710 it is assembled by hydraulically pressing the barrel into receiver, not threaded. This requires that the bolt's locking lugs hold the barrel in place when in the closed position. Also, the receiver is made up of areas of fiberglass reinforced nylon material versus steel. This obviously creates a weight reduction compared to using steel but I believe it also sacrifices longevity & durability. If you're stuck on Remington I think you'd do better with a Model 700. Yes, you'll probably pay more money but you'll get a rifle that's very serviceable. Just my $0.02.

Rem 700 is an excellent rifle and IMO worth the extra cost.

The Rem 710 IMO is a piece of junk. Go with a 700 or if money is a problem the new Stevens 200 is a proven design. :welcome: to TGN. ;)

Welcome to the group !!!! :welcome:

I too have to say go with the 700. I am a fan of the Remington for long range shooting, having done a lot of it in the past. The 700 is one of my 2 favorite reach out and thump someone rifles.

Savage also makes a great inexpensive bolt action if the Remington 700 is too expensive for you.

The 710 is okay and certainly is inexpensive. I will start out by saying that rifles are a personal thing....kind of like a truck. You either love it or hate it. Over the years, I have tried lots of different rifles and calibers. One that I don't like and would not buy is the Remington 710. Here is why...I found that they felt rather bulky to hold and shoulder....akin to trying to shoulder a 2x6. I am also not thrilled with the action....I much prefer the tried and true model 700 system. In addition, the scope they come with is well, cheap to say the least. If you are looking at a Remington but want a break on price, consider a 700 ADL. They are virtually the same as a BDL model but have a blind magazine (no trap door) and aren't finished as nicely. You should be able to find one at Wally Mart for a good price. Another alternative is to buy a Ruger 77...they are good rifles and they come with integral bases and scope rings at no extra cost. The triggers aren't anything great but for a hunting rifle, they are okay.
