Just saw an extremely nice No. 4 MK II. This is supposedly UNFIRED. Beautiful blonde stock. Finish is 100%. Store owner stated that he got it from an individual who got two, both sealed in a bag. Rifle comes with the correct bayonet and scabbard wwhich is in the same condition. I saw no import mark. I thought it might be one of the Navy Arms Savage Collector Grades but I think those are MK I's not II's. I didn't have time to check it out further and didn't see the the manufacturer, I was playing hookie from work and had to get back. He's asking $450 but will probably come down.

It's probably a rifle that came out of Ireland about 8 to 10 years ago. IMO I wouldn't spend more than $325 for it. The original selling price was $187 if my memory serves me.
The "collector grade" Savage rifles from Navy Arms are humm how to say this . . . . are reworked shall I say. They sand blast the bolts so they look a dull gray almost like electroless nickel plating. Next they usually stick them in a new stock.
These rifles have the SA with an arrow between the S and A cartouche on them. This is South Africa's mark for their arms.
I got one of these once and it was a POS! I sent it back the next day. Stock was 3 different shades of color. Bore had pits in it large enough to hide a BB in them! I ended up just getting a refund! Went to Springfield Sporters and got the Savage N04 MK I.
This rifle had the original stock but had a replacment buttstock and upper hand guard. The stock had the serial number of the action stamped into it just below the front sling swivel. More history in Springfield's Savage Enfields IMO. Navy Arms have been sanitized to make them look desirable but they are nto original finish or configuration rifles.

I checked BDL Ltd and he has a FAZ No4 MKII 1/55 new in the wrap with bayonet and scabbard for $495.00 I have never seen an Enfield with this color stock before. The handguard is a perfect match as is the butt.

Ah yes the date, I forgot to mention that the No. 4 MK II's that came from the armory in Ireland were 55 or 56 dated. Wood is all natural beech wood sort of a yellow look very light in color.
If you get it in the mummy wrap you need to leave it there to maintain your investment especially if you pay $495 for it. Me, I'd rather get one that somebody already took out of the wrapper and blasted a few hundred through it. Then I wouldn't feel guilty of trashing a Mint peice of Rifle history.

I got to checking over at gunboards and it sure sounds like an Irish Fazerkely. Going price on that board seems to be from $325-350 cleaned to $450 in the wrap. I guess I'll pass as the Garand is not even here yet. Must learn self control, must learn not spend more than I have. Yeah right. If anyone is interested in this send me an email or PM and I'll give you the lowdown. The same store had a bunch of SAR-1's for $360 and two SKS "D" models that take AK mags for $400 and these were mint.

While we're on the subject of Enfields, are ther any sites that go into detail about the markings? I got a a No.4 Mk I. for my sixteenth birthday about 13 years ago. It was my first high powered rifle and it came from Woolworth's. Those were the days. I am just intersted in knowing a little more about its history.
