Did the pg conversion - used rivets to secure the trigger guard. This one required that I cut the pg square hole as it didn't have that (the 22" .308 that I converted had it already). Finished it up with Duplicolor high-temp and baked her off yesterday. Chose the Red Star fcg and decided to tune it to a single stage pull - suweet! Was in the process of wrangling with the bolt hold open spring and the damned thing shot into the atmosphere to parts unknown, so it is sans bho for now. The buttstock and pg are k-mart and the sling is an ATI which fits the front sling swivel perfectly.
I'm considering a brake for the front end but won't get to that for a while. Besides, I don't think the muzzle blast is really all that bad. At least not with the Hertenberger berdan that I've been shooting in it.
Anyhoo, I'm very happy with the results and can't wait to get it to the range to shoot again.

Hey man, I tried to PM you but your inbox is full...
I'd be very interested in buying those old SAIGA trigger parts and/or buttstock...
I want to build a SAIGA clone for California but I need the rear-set trigger parts to make it work.
Let me know if you're interested, you can shoot me a PM :)

Thanks! Yes, this is the second time that I've used it. Duplicolor 1200 degree high temp engine paint. It is an excellent gun finish. We are talking about a $5 can of paint from Walmart here and it is a great product.
I cleaned the metal parts with brake cleaner and then with acetone (which removed some of the original Saiga paint!) to degrease. Then, light coats of the Duplicolor, waited 15 minutes and then hung it in the oven and baked for an hour at 325 and another hour at 385 - done. Slightly different than the directions, but close.

Thanks, and.... you forgot something.... yep, the standard handguard and sling loop too ;)
Maybe in time - I'm between jobs right now and really don't need to be blowing money on AK goodies :thud: But I do have some of the 20 rounders on order - couldn't pass those up!
The muzzle blast doesn't seem that bad though - but I bet it's throwing a nice flash with each shot...

I like the standard handguard for the saiga, you just need to put some vents on each side.

You might want to double check and see that they are legal in California before you build anything. My big purple book of state gun laws says that any firearm built on a Kalashnikov type action is prohibited by the dangerous weapon control act. That is why you dont see any Saigas in California gun shops.
