Best Self Defense Ammo

I'm wondering what everyone's opinion would be on the best self defense ammunition for .357 ruger revolver, 9mm SA luger and .45 ACP. There are so many different types and variables I can't decide.

I don't think there is a single one that's "best" per se. Most of the name brands generally test well. Federal Hydrashock, Speer Gold Dots, Cor-Bon, etc. I would stay away from the specialty type stuff, ie, shot shell type handgun cartridges.
