Anyone have a Persian Mauser? I've been looking at the ones that Samco (http://www.samcoglobal.com) has and started lusting. It'll be a bit, since I just bought a Schmidt-Rubin, but I really like the way they look. Aren't they one of the most accurate of the Mausers? I admit to being a bit daft in the Mauser department, so don't be afraid to coddle me!

Be seeing you.

Type an open bracket and the name of the web site or url. Close bracket.

Type the name of what you want the user to read. Open bracket / and close bracket

So, substituting brackets for descriptive purposes:

{url=www.refdesk.com}My Text {/url}

Remember to use these [] brackets

It is on my buy list.

Shop down the road has a ratty one for like $450. But Samco has good prices...and pay that little extra for the bayonet...thats a bayonet that would be hard to find later at a gunshop or local shop

Have a non import 98k and a 98a and I would really like to find a GEW 98 but they are hard to find in nice shape.

Like to get a nice vz24 also.

And in the long run a nice 33/40 but they are quite expensive.

Oh wait and then I would like to get (sheesh it doesn't stop)

Persian Mausers are "Da Bomb". I ordered the Special Select without bayonet and a sling from Samco back around Labor Day. I received a rifle in what I would consider Excellent condition with the exception of the stock. The bore was absolutely clean and sharp, metal finish was around 98%. All matching numbers. The stock though was a diffenent story. The Persians are known for the high gloss finish on their wood. Mine had the finish missing over about 50% of it's surface. It also has quite a lot of handling dings and dents. I will shortly be stripping the stock down and reapplying a high gloss finish. I may try and post some before and after pics. Special Select is not a standard NRA type of grade. If you look specifically at Samco's grading format at the bottom of their site you will see what they consider Special Select. Mine falls within that category. I am quite happy overall though I had hoped for a better stock. The rifle appears to have been moved around a lot and handled somewhat but fired hardly at all. It comes with the cleaning rod but they forgot the sling though they did charge my CC and list it on the invoice. A phone call got it sent to me. The sling was somewhat moldy and discolored but cleaned up fairly well. The leather thongs will snap in half when you tie them so be careful. I have only two Mausers at the moment, my Persian and my T38. I feel that I have the Cadillac and the Chevy Truck of this class of rifles. I would suggest that you be specific with Samco as to the quality of rilfe you are looking for when you order. I believe they will try to accomodate you to the best of their ability. I would not recommend the Unissued due to the price. There is no way you can purchase one of these and not shot it. Buy the Unissued only if you have the self control to leave it cherry. Just my .02

Persians in top shape are beautiful rifles IMO. I helped a friend of mine get in 3 of them 2 years ago. They look too good to shoot. He shoots the roughest looking one and saves the other two. The first two looked unissued. Damn they were pretty!

I have not taken the step to get one. What I want is one of the ones with the matching target and bayonet combo. Big money and too many wants for other weapons has kept that one on the back burner. Sigh! :( Hope they still have them when I finally get straight on my money.
