1. there I was oblivious to Makarovs and happy in my little AK-47 and Curio and Relics relmn when along you guys came and messed me up. After seeing and reading this forum I decided to search around.
2. I just bought a Bulgarian Makarov for $129.00. Excellent condition with two sets of grips, black plastic and brown plastic, cleaning rod and two mags in the box. It also comes with a lanyard and Leather Holster.
3. Unfortunately, My state has a Gun of the Month Club where you can only pick up one handgun a month and seeing as how I just picked up the 1911a1 Auto-Ordnance last week, I have to wait until Jan 6th to pick it up.
4. In the meantime someone let me know something about the Bulgarian model. Thanks:p

I have a Bulgarian. Looks decent, works like a Mak - flawlessly. I seem to shoot the PA63 more for some reason. The Mak chokes on HP, the PA eats it without argument.
Sounds like you live in a communist state and need to move!!

1. The state of New York complained so much about the Saturday Night Specials that were coming out of our PawnShops that they put pressure of South Carolina to do something. Result was one pistol per month period.
2. no more driving down by the New York crowd and picking up 30 guns and taking them back to the streets of New York.
3. Yea, a communist state is right!!!

I hope they don't come after us next.
I shot my Bulgie Mak for the first time today, also first time shooting a MAK.
Let me say that I'm no big fan of small pistols, I've had several and have been impressed with none , untill today that is.
I love this thing, I really can't explain it.
Maybe it's the fact that it is way more accurate than I expected.
Actually I should say that I'm way more accurate with it than I expected.
This is the first SMALL pistol that I've shot that I can hit great with.
I was snap shooting 5" gongs at 25 meters and nailing the shit out of 'em.
I'm hooked.

Same here. The only other handgun I could ever hit what I aimed at was my S&W 29.
I never could hit shit with the P38 I used to own.
I was looking at the US Special Ops H&K .45 USP's yesterday for the first time. Then saw the $2,000 price tag and almost choked.
That Mak of mine is the best $150 I have ever spent on any gun!

I just got my Bulgarian. I love it!
But I am sending it back to SOG. Their so called "Excellent Condition" was exactly what I had hoped. I have small areas of rust on the side of the frame, as well as major wear on the slide.
I am going to have to eat another $35 for the transfer. But thats cheaper than a re-bluing.
Anyone else dis-satisfied with their Bulgie from SOG?

WTF is up with the SC Legislature? They'll go to the mat to keep the Confederate Battle Flag on top of the state house, but a northern state -- not just any state but NEW YORK -- sheds a few tears and SC bails? Geeezz……

My Russian has some wear on it. The barrel bluing was also worn like it had seen some firing. I honestly beleive that what SOG is offerring is the bottom of the barrel as far the surplus Bulgie Maks are concerned. They are running low and most of the nice ones have already been handed out. I am sure more will make it into the country but there is no telling when. Good luck.

I bought a 7.62 Nagant Revolver from them and paid an extra $20.00 for hand picked. I liked it so much I bought another one but didn't pay extra for the hand picked. I wanted just a run of the mill hoping to get one that was worn or possibly a prewar model. What they sent for the regular price was a better pistol than the one that I paid $20.00 extra for the handpicked!!! Seems all of them were arsenal refurbished WW2 models. Go figger. They ripped me off for the first twenty bucks.

To quote someone else on the boards here..."hand picked means they picked it up with either the right or the left hand when they pulled it out of the crate on the way to shipping."

I picked up a Makarov in California years after I had worked at a gunrange and observed the utter reliabilty of the gun. California outlawed the guns mere weeks after I got it.
I live in the High Sierra's. When I took the gun out to shoot for the first time it was COLD! Damn cold. Ice forming on my beard, and my hands were so frozen that I could not feel the actual pull of the trigger. I grew up in this area and am used to the cold, but this day was nasty. The Makarov didnt mind. It likes the cold. Ate up all the ammo I could feed it flawless. The gun was ready for more. I had to leave before I died.
One small drawback for us 1911 shooters though. The Mak has a slide mounted safety. For those of us who shoot with thumbs high on the left of the gun, it takes a slight altering of our grip or a reminder to hold the thumbs out away from the gun. People bitch about recoil. I think they are all wet. The recoil is fine. Good luck.
