243 is the code for Mauser/Borsigwalde. That is the manufacturer, which was an extension of Mauser/Oberndorf.
The barrel should also have some marks, just above the receiver ring, maybe some alpha characters and a date.
If you can post them all, I can translate them, too, most likely.
on the left hand side of the buttstock, between the ring and the buttplate, if you look real carefully, you may be able to see the branch of service stamp.
Unfortunately, someone butchered an all matching K98k, it sounds like. Too bad.

I'm going to have to look at it again.I don't remember any letters but I could me wrong.
did they make a hunting K98 mauser with all the markings or was the stock put on by someone in the states?
ill let you know in a few days
Ps. it had no import marking and had the last 2 digits on all the parts (screws and etc.).

The only Mauser sporters from that era were made at Mauser Oberndorf and had the Mauser banner on the receiver ring. This was before the Nazi era, I believe, and so they had no waffenamt (eagle/swastika) marks on them either.
This is undoubtedly a postwar conversion to a sporter. The stock is commercial and may be a Fajen, which is a top grade sporter stock. It looks like the barrel may also be a postwar addition.
What caliber is it? How much are they asking?
As a sporter, maybe $250-$350 depending how much one wants it.
As an all matching K98k in excellent condition, it would have gone for $500+. Great example of butchering a hell of an investment.

I'll second what the Doktor said. Nice rifle but would be much nicer if original. The stock is pretty much American in design. A European stock would pretty much have a hogsback type comb to it and most likely a schnabel forend. The monte carlo is not correct for something from across the water. Recoil pad and sling setup is not right either. Nice rifle though. I had a guy at work bring in a very nice Argentine Mauser in 7x57. I think it may be the Navy model due to the anchor type synbol on it. Anyway, it had been restocked in a mid grade oak unit and the guy who did it tossed the original wood. I passed. He only wanted $100 for it which is what he gave his friend who was getting divorced. I may end up buying it but not right now. I can't see messing with it.

General rule of thumb on all mausers:
It's cool to sporterize a:
Chilean, Argentinian, Persian, Spanish or really any other contract Mauser. IMO, the Argentinian DWM's make beautiful sporters.
It's not cool to sporterize a military K98k, K98b, Kar 98a or a Gewehr 98 (ie any of the German military 98's, regardless of who made them).
You're a friggin idiot in need of a frontal lobotomy if you sporterize a German military 98 WITH ALL MATCHING SERIAL NUMBERS for Godssakes!:D
