Howdy,

Just picked up the July issue of Gun World. Page 56, there is a picture of a modified Saiga 20 gauge. I'd like to get something simillar in 12 gauge. Well, except for the folding stock and 14 inch barel. 18 inch barel is fine with me, and a non-folding ak style stock is likewise acceptable, but definately want the ak pistol grip. Anyone know if the importer is willing to sell one that way? If not, how hard is it to move the trigger and guard forward? Or should I send it somewhere to be done (and if so, where, and for how much?)

Thanks,

Mike

Your S.O.L. unless your a cop. Pistol grip is illegal for civies on All AK shotguns. I think everyone would love one but thank our buddies in the Whitehouse for keeping us safe by not letting us have thoes dangerous pistol grips. mildot

well, surely if converting a saiga 7.62x39 so that it has a pistol grip is legally doable, converting a saiga 12 gauge should be, right?

Is the saiga 12 guage listed by name on the "assualt weapons" ban list? it has no bayonet lug, flash hider, grenade launcher, and can not accept magazine in excess of 10 rounds, so a pistol grip should be ok, right?

Shotgun laws are completely different from rifle laws. No shotgun post, whenever ban, civilian, can have a pistol grip. We are talking about new guns or recent conversions. So the Saiga is not specifically mentioned because all shotguns of that type are military or police only. Unless you are lucky enough to have a shotgun from before the ban that already had a pistol grip on it you're SOL.

BTW, does anyone know when the ban for shotguns was?

the 94 crime bill is why you cant have a pistol grip on a detach mag shotgun

Sucks doesnt it!!!!!!!!!!!!!. If you want a pistol grip and a folder you are pretty much restricted to a pump shotgun. I must say though mossberg is making some pretty nice parkerized 9shot pumps that are just betting for the pistol grip treatment. May be my next purchase for a camp gun. I wonder what is better parkerization or maricoat???????Best of luck.

well crap!

I've got a remington 870 with the speedfeed stock with a pistol grip built into the stock. this one: http://www.htcomp.net/gandalf23/airsoft/speedfeedstock.gif

would it be legal to put something like that on the saiga 12 gauge? since the pistol grip would be part of the buttstock?

Skuld,

I like the pistol-grip/speedfeed stock you have for your Rem 870. Do you, or anyone else here, know if one is/was made for the Mossberg 500 series? I have the parkerized 590 (9 shot w/ 2 3/4" shells; 8 shot w/ 3" Magnum shells), Ghost Ring sights, and bayo lug. I love it, but would like a pistol grip stock with butt stock as well. I don't particularly enjoy shooting pistol grip-only 12 guage, especially magnum loads with 1.25 oz slugs.

Thanks!

Rev,
http://www.fortplumlee.com/access/speedfeed_body.html

according to that ad, they are available for mossberg 500/590. if I remember correctly, speedfeed is now owned by pachmayr (http://www.pachmayr.com/) but I didn't see anything about their products on their webpage.

my dad has a 590 (without the speedfeed stock) and he loves it. great gun. we even created our own bayonet for it from a broken M7 bayonet and an old mauser bayonet. looks incredibly vicious (but _very_ impractical at over 15 inches).

Hello,

It is indeed a shame that the pistol-grip Saiga shotguns cannot be legally owned by us civilians. However, Kalashnikov USA Ltd. is working on a replacement Dragunov-style buttstock (a la Choate/Fiberforce) for these guns. I think that this would be a nice compromise between the standard stock and the pistol-grip version. They are still in the initial development stage (they've fabricated the original from which to make the mold). If enough of us are interested (I know I am) and we let them know, they will get this project rolling.
Let's hear your comments on this.

oh i would be interested in this too, id like to see a pic on how it looks before i bought one, maybe you should start a new thread on this topic and get some more replies
my gun is already illegal in kalif so putting a thumbhole on it wont make it any more illegal --HA HA

LA,

I doubt that there is a photo of this set-up since no actual stock yet exists. I'm assuming that the stock will be similar to those availble for the AK/SKS manufatured by Fiberforce and Choate. I guess we'll have to use our imaginations and "visualize" one of these stocks on a Saiga. I drew a sketch of one, and it looks great.
I think I'll start that new thread like you suggested.
BTW, what are the odds of you moving from Kalif. to America (or what's left of it)?

I've een in touch with Kalsh USA's G.M., Pete Thomson. He's eager to see the Saiga Dragunov stock put into production,
but they need more urging from Siaga owners to make this project a priority.
The man to talk to is Steve Lyshon. Here is the contact info:

and/or

Let's get going and tell these folks to get the ball rolling with this project. It will certainly be worth the effort.

Ned: I think the pistol grip issue is for auto-loaders, pumps are a different thing. Don't quote me, though....

Yeah, that's a good idea. Just put on a dragunov-style stock. Choate, ATI, whatever. Just move the trigger and trigger guard forward just like you do on the 7.62x39mm SAIGA (should be easy to do with a dremel tool, metal saw, and some JB-Weld) and instead of installing a pistol grip, install the drag stock.
This is not illegal, right?

If they come up with a legal version of a custom stock for the Saiga. I would be extremely interested!!

rifleman

It is legal. And why do you need a custom stock? The receiver is the same as a regular AK receiver. There ya go! ATI and Choate make these stocks.

unfortunetly, i think the ATF views thumbhole stocks the same as pistol grips when installed on new rifles: dont quote me on that though. plus the receiver for the saiga shotguns is much bulkier than a standard ak clone
