Has anyone ever tried one of these Accu-Wedge things? Its a small plastic part fits in the lower reciever and some how takes the play out of the fit between the upper and lower. Are they any good or just another gadget? :lurking:

I never found them useful for High Power competition. I use to use tin foil to tighten things up, then tried a borrowed Accu-wedge but I saw no difference except for some extra change in my pocket.

I have one in mine......it does seem to take the play out of it.

I heard somewhere that it can wobble out one of the pin holes.

Never bothered me enough to remove it.

Not even sure that's true.

I was just wondering about this thing. I'm deploying to Iraq in Jan and I have an ACOG on my M4. I was just wondering if this accuwedge would tighten up my groups any or if its just a gadget to put money in the supplier's pocket. Any other info would be greatly appriciated.

Some people swear by them... others think they're a gimmick.

And the final group just says... "what's it hurt to have one?"

Personally I fall into the "gimmick" category as I don't think an AR's upper could wobble enough to make a difference, especially when your gripping the forearm and holding it steady. Not to mention the fact that the loaded magazine's tension against the bolt carrier is enough to create a tight fit in most cases I've seen.

I've seen some WOBBLY uppers and personally, they bother the hell out of me. To me it's not only indicative of poor quality and attention to specs. but also is detrimental to accuracy. Example.....I have a buddy with a DPMS 24" bull barrel varmint rig. His barrel is an excellent example and capable of shooting .5 MOA groups on even a bad day. But.....his upper to lower fit is attrocious making those groups nearly impossible to achieve.

Why?

He shoots off a bipod. Try getting a nice stable sight picture through a 20x power scope while your upper is pod supported and wobbling independent of your lower that is tucked nice and tight into your shoulder. It's annoying to say the least. In comparison.....my RRA receivered SPR is tight as can be with no wobble whatsoever. No problems holding a solid sight picture at all.

The accu-wedge is a great little dongle for these situations but they do wear out over time and aren't the cheapest thing out there. But, if you find one at a gun show or something for a couple of bucks...it's worth it. Some other low cost alternatives are foam earplugs in the rear shelf area, and o-rings on the upper reciever lugs. Both accomplish the same thing.

Now.....on a knock around carbine does this matter? No. But.....it does fix that cheapo-ness feel that wobbly rifles have in my opinion.

Just how much play does your M4 have? Once you jump the pond, expect to take that weapon apart DAILY to keep it clean. This will likely accellerate the wear to your accu-wedge.

In all likelihood, your inconsistant groups are attributed to your technique and the fact that M855 is not exactly match grade ammo. Also understand that you'll get some play from the collapsable stock alone.

I personally wouldn't get one since there are less expensive and just as effective methods to tighten up that fit. The foil suggestion is my favorite, but make sure that the foil is in there in such a way as to ensure that no part can get away and interfere with the FC group.

Instead, I'd put money into a better stock like a VLTOR or LMT, a Hogue grip, and a Buffer Technologies "gapper". I'd also look into a ARMS #40 back up iron sight because the issue ones we got during RFI broke off all the time, and those that stayed on didn't hold their zero for squat.

A vendor called M1Surplus has 'em on Gunbroker for 3 bucks so I thought I'd try one. Combined shipping swayed me too. Will get back to ya on its performance.

I've had one in my Olympic Arms AR for several years...do they help accuracy? Probably not that much, but it does make the gun feel better by taking up the slop in the receivers...that being said, my RRA doesn't need one, as it was built very tight...

In my experience, most RRA lowers require quite a bit of force when new and exhibit little or no slop. I once had to do some file work on the rear pin block of a Bushmaster M4 upper before it would even think about seating in a new RRA lower.

If its wobbly, use it..If not, why worry...
They do work on wobble ARs for sure.
Im with mil700p about the bipod situation, it really sucks to have wobble through a 20x scope..My bushmaster varminter has some wobble, so we put one of the $5 accuwegdes's in, problem solved...
My other ars the wobble is either not there or I dont notice...
