to your do it selfers, i have converted two .223 saigas without any problems and i am considering doing a .308. what i was wondering is the trigger hole already cut out like in the 223 cal? i havent purchased the rifle yet but am highly considering it. i will sign off now and wait for answers thankyou

I have not converted my .308 Saiga as I have enough PG configured guns and sort of liked the different synthetic "sporting" stock. So, I was waiting for somebody else who did to reply.

But, I assume it to be no different reciever-wise than your .223 version. The tirgger is of a different design -a L-O-N-G one pc. trigger, rather than the "leverage" linked one on the other versions. The recoil spring also has a different fixture on the rear...evidently to help retain it under recoil.

That's it. You should be able to "convert" it as you di the others.

Have fun!

The newer ones have the hole cut and the older ones don't. Cutting a hole isn't that big of deal though - just use a dremel/cut-off wheel.

Here's a pic of the last one I converted - had the hole:

I converted two earlier in the year, one had the hole cut and one didn't......but if you use a TAPCO SAW pistol grip for an AK you don't need to use the standard hole but can use the old Saiga trigger slot....make sense?

randy back, when i did the 223s i simply replaced the entire trigger system with a tapco G2 will this trigger system fit the 308 version?and i intend to replace rear stock with an ATI stock. i am looking at the 22 in version to get the most out of it in terms of fps for this round with a good russian scope. the 223s i did were a piece of cake really once i removed the trigger plate and the trigger hole was already there and i do have a dremel tool to cut one if i have too.like everyone else after you do the first the second is really easy, but the 308 version i have seen on wesites i cant make out a bottem trigger plate in there pictures. i seen what i want to do on another thread here on this site under sniperized 308, again thanks for the help, the only way to find out is dive in

I recommend the Red Star Vepr 308 fcg for the Saiga 308 conversion. You can make a G-2 work, but its a PITA and doesn't always work out.

As to the ATI stock, it works fine - but you may need to do a little fitting to the part that comes in contact with the trigger guard. I installed one on a Siaga 308 22"er that I traded for a carbine version. It worked really well and was easy to camo with Krylon flat camo paint too.

thanks OSAK i will check out the red star group, by the way what kind of groups did you get with your rifle say at 250 yds? my eyes are getting older and what can i expect from this weapon? also what made you trade for the carbine version? thanks Randy

Well, I never shot it at 250 yards - just 100 with a POSP scope and it got 2" groups with Hertenberger milsurp ammo.

I see reports of 1-2" groups all of the time with good ammo. They shoot very well.

The reason that I went for the carbine version is that I didn't have a rifle like that - did have an FAL already and its a good "heavy". That's all. And I like the compact carbine anyway.

And now, FBMG is coming out with 20 round mags - I have three on order and they will be shipping pretty soon - perfect for the carbine - and for the long gun too, but more important for a carbine IMHO.

BTW, here is a pic of the 22"er that I did up with the ATI stock - camoed with Krylon flat camo paint.

O.S.O.K...

The ATI "Dragunov" rear stock really goes well, I think, with the stock Saiga front handguard...it looks like it "belongs".

Nothing against Red Star's retention plates, but save your money and go to the local ACE Hardware, Home Despot, etc. and get you some 7/32" e-clips. These look like this:

You just slip these over the ends of the pins where the shepard's crook usually goes - very cheap and easy on and off and hold the pins fine.

Small hairpin type clips also work just fine.

Don't need no stinkin shepards crook or retention plates.... ;)

Keep in mind that I sanded the ATI stock down, degreased with acetone and then painted with the Krylon Flat Camo paints. I also had to releive the stock just in front of the pistol grip where it fits against the back of the trigger guard. Just FYI.

I did much the same with one I put on a MAK once. Well worth the effort.

This is after I stripped the cammo back off (I never could decide which I liked best)...

While I like the ATI "Dragunov" rear stock better than other mfg's of the style, the handguard is LAME at best -a milspec black synthetic forearm would be better (if not a Saiga).

Lollygagger :bye: (No! That's not a cheesey reciever cover mount -it is a old MMC mount tapped on reciever left. )
