Hi All! Has anyone any recent experience with the Saiga .308 or Vepr .308 Rifles? I'm curious as to how they shoot and any differences between the two other than a straight stock versis the thumbhole on the Vepr. These rifles seem really reasonably prices so I was wondering the downside on them was if any. Thanks much!

The VEPR I bought is an xlnt shooter for an ak type rifle..I have nothing but good to say about it. I also have a Saiga but in x39, which is also a good shooter, but the VEPR in 308 kicks its butt on the range.,better round, I d say..quality is good on both..Wouldn t hesitate to rec. either one of these rifles..

Louie, thanks for the info! There is a $120.00 price difference between the Saiga .308 and the Vepr .308. Just wondered whether the Veprm .308 was worth the extra money. Thanks much!

the VEPR has an RPK type heavier receiver, and is a little heftier than the Saiga, but again will u need the heft? the wood is def nicer on the VEPR than the saiga in 308. I like em both, but hell,$$$$$, how much can u buy without going to the poor house?

I don't have a vepr but I do have a .308 Saiga. I like it and it shoots very well. Recoil is not bad either.

I like the Rifle stock better than the thumbhole on the Vepr(personal opinion and I like my M1 Garand alot also).

The difference is the VEPR has a walnut thumbhole stock and forearm. Mine is a very nice piece of wood. Lots of figure in it.

I like my .308 Vepr; I don't own and have never shot a Saiga. For purely aesthetic reasons I prefer the Vepr as it retains more of a military look compared to the Saiga. The Vepr shoots well; recoil is comfortable, and accuracy is good, about the same as a .308 Yugo at 100yds. with iron sights. Quality is very high and the finish is excellent.

My $.02: Grab a Vepr while you still can.

Which vendors have Veprs?

I haven't noticed them in SGN.

Check out www.robarm.com (http://www.robarm.com) They can probably steer you to a retailer; or get a local gun dealer to order one for you.
