I am on Southern Ohio Guns website and they have Bulgarian Maks and a European PA-63 that looks like a Walter. I like the alloy and two-tone look of the European. Any one here familiar with the European? I will probably order in the next day or two so please post.
Thanks!

I do not have personal experience with the PA-63's but I have heard that they function similar to the Walther's but are not of the same quality as the Makarovs. I would suggest a Mak first and then a 63. My experience with the Mak's has been nothing but pure joy. Do you have any specific questions? What role do you intend the Mak or the 63 to fill?

I have a PA-63 and it shoots great! I like it better than my Makarov, but thats subjective. The Mak shoots a little easier, but the PA-63 is also a great shooter and a little more compact. I say get them both.

I'm actually getting one just because I want one. The history, the price, the addition to my arsenal, etc. My buddy wants one because of the combination of price and reliability. It will be his home defense weapon until we get him a CCW, then he'll probably carry it.

I forgot to mention that the PA-63 also has an alloy frame compared to the steel frame of the Mak. Not sure if there is much a weight difference, but it is likely that there is. An alloy frame might make for a little more comfortable carry.

The D/A trigger on the 63 sucks bad.

All the Walther PP style guns have hard double action pulls, its the design. The PA-63 is an almost direct Walther copy too. The Makarov is much different internally than the Walther so its trigger pull is much better.

I own three Makarovs, two East Germans and a Russian high cap .380 and I would choose a mak any day over the comercial PA-63 with the aluminun frame.
