AK-74 lower hand guards are made from three pieces of laminated that are "fused" together. The top handguard appears to be made of one sheet of laminated wood that is curved into shape. These pieces would be extremely difficult to replicate. As in if you found some one who had the skill it would cost big $$$$. The butt stock could be done. I have looked into doing this myself sense I have not even ever seen a Russian laminated AK-74 butt stock. You could buy a Bulgarian AK-74 solid wood stock set. This would give you the sling swivel and the ribbed butt plate you will need. Then you would send the stock off to be duplicated in laminate. I got a quote for about $150.00 to do this.

BTW I am sure that you are aware of the Tennessee Guns butt stock. It is not very similar to an AK-74 butt stock.

Your best bet is to get a real AK-74 hand guard set, and a late AKM butt stock. Then cut grooves in the butt stock. The only way I know of getting the ribbed butt plate is to buy the Bulgarian wood stock set. Yeah I know that make for a expensive butt plate, but that is what I had to do.

ekie i had talked to ironwood designs and they said they could produce a set made out of norwegian plywood,,looks identical to laminate,,they have no pictures so im kinda hesitant to buy,,the price was $110. im wondering if they do the sets for tennesse guns..any way my parts count is maxed out on my sar2,i really like wood over plastic,i have a bulgarian set and its really nice but its foriegn made,,im thinking about refinishing the butt stock and give it a home made look and claim it as such...

I have only seen photos of ironwoods milled receiver stock sets. They look real nice. I would be shocked to find out their laminated furniture looked like AK-74 stuff. I guess it comes down to how "picky" you are.
