My grandfather has 2 Colt AR-15 SP1's... 1 has the long, fat handguard (like the M-16's from vietnam), and the other has the short handguard (looks like your average PD AR-15) with a 2 position collapseable stock... I was thinking of adding some goods to the M16 lookalike like a mil-spec or r.i.s. type of handguard or switch out the whole upper. What all would I have to go through to adapt a new handguard or are the newer uppers 100% compatible with this old pre-ban?

Do NOT, I say again DO NOT, mess with either one of these pieces. They are collector items; especially the carbine version, and screwing around with them will cause the gods of collectability to shrink your peepee down to 1/2 an inch. :thud:

And BTW, the front mounting hole on these pieces is larger than the current standard, and would require a special adapter screw arrangement to fit a current upper assy.

oh okay... they are original and as far as I know, they are in near perfect condition... I gotta talk ol gramps into taking them into the range after we clean the bore.
