Last weekend at a gunshow in Atlanta, one vendor had what had to be the most impossibly good condition Russian Mosin Nagant 91/30's and M44's. These were all matching numbers, immaculate varnished stocks, complete, dark blued, with bayonets wrapped in paper next to them... All for 180-bucks. WTF?! Who wants to lay bets there's an outfit refinishing these buggers? These were too perfect to be legit. Anyone else see these?

I don't remember the name right now but there is a company, I believe in FL that just imported a whole bunch of M91/30's that had been rearsenaled. Allegheny Arsenal just ran out a month or so ago of their batch of real nice Mosins.

Have you seen any of the M44s that have been re-stocked in polymer furniture yet? Odd...

Be seeing you.

My local dealer ordered 6 of them and sent them all back because although they looked like beauties on the outside, the bores were very dark and pitted. Much like women, the best looking on the outside is not always a winner. My favorite beat to shit M91/30 shoots 2" all day long, I paid $33 for it.

I can't remember their name now. They are one of the bigger gun store suppliers around, their catalog was as thick as a phone book. It was similar to Burns Bros but not them. It started with a B and I'm pretty sure it was brothers though. I had never heard of them before he showed the catalog to me.

He also sent back two M38's for the same reason.

This brings up a good point for newbies: ALWAYS check the bore and mechanics before you buy it. The outside looks can be deceiving.

I carry a bore light with me when I'm on the prowl to buy something. Best $5 investment I've made in a long time.

REDSTAR's right on the money. A $5 borelight will save you all kinds of

Also, don't trust a bore choked with cosmoline. I've brought a kit and cleaned them out at the shop before. Trust me, the owner probably will not mind if you clean up a rifle at his place. It can never hurt to check...

Be seeing you.

1. I never trust a bore with cosmoline in it. Im always suspicious that they are hiding something. Cleaning before would save headaches later.
