These pics were taken last year. My buddy, in the pics, and myself have access to some of the best coyote and whistle pig areas around here.
I am using a Bushy A2 16" HB with a Tasco World Class scope, and he is using a Ruger mini-14 w/Simmons glass.

The first 2 shots taken were at these pigs. The mom got hit first with a 62 gr. from the mini-14, then the 2 youngins were hit with one 55gr. from the Bushy. The 2 kids were sitting together watching their mom. The second pic shows the distance they were shot. (approx. 170 yds. Randy is in the middle of the pic.)
We killed 2 coyotes that day. I'll see if I can find the pics and post later.

I'm not waiting for Spring.
We've had a warm week and I've seen several hogs out and about.
I'm going Sunday, come hell or high water.
This cabin fever crap is NOT for me.

Good luck, I don't know about hell but the weather channel says there will probably be high water, Do you use a caller on the yotes, or do you bait them.

They were predicting severe storms here. Lights went out for 30 minutes, a lot of thunder, but hardly any rain.
The clearing line is in Memphis, so sunny here tomorrow...I hope.
I call with a Johnny Stewart and bait. Where I hunt, the owner's cows are calving now, so there's plenty of after birth for bait. :big:

Thanks for the info, my wife was looking over my shoulder and saw your kills and then she asked if HER? AR would do that. I told her that I did not know what her AR would do, but MY AR would damn sure do that. Now she's pissed but she will get over it, I hope! Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Do you remember, "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned"?
Never, never scorn a female AR owner. Hahahahaha.

Apparently you forgot hearing part of the wedding vows where she states, "What is mine is mine, and what is yours is mine".
Being nervous during the ceremony can have dire results afterwards. :lool:

AH, I was very awake during the ceremony, and shaking in my shoe's, ask zoff12 he was my best man, Jerk screwed with the hole day over that. But I am headed out tomorrow to do a little hog hunting got five pounds of broccoli and plenty of ammo wish me luck.

My buddy in the pic above has hooked us up with some property owners around here that need some hogs...gone. :big:
Can't wait until Sunday to check it out.
Good luck tomorrow. May the pig be present.
BTW, is the broccoli for you or the hogs??????
EDITED to state NO luck last Sunday. The wind was gusting to 40 MPH.
I took a shot at a cow pile @350 yds. The bullet hit about 2' to the right. Gotta study up on Kentucky windage. lol

The broccoli is for the hog's, they love that stuff it's like crack to them, at least it has worked in the past. I am working on some farm's that need some varmit hunting bad, they say that they will let me hunt, I guess I will find out soon enough.

I saw one good sized ground hog at about 260-265yds fired, hit, and the damn thing fell in the staunton river, I did not realize how close It was to the river when I fired, the damn thing was right on the edge of the bank, all I have is an empty casing and a puddle of blood on the rivers edge, CRAP!

Interesting.
But according to WP law (Whistle Pig), "NO BODY....NO COUNT".
After all, the blood pool may be a ploy to throw you off.
I willing to bet there were 2 other pigs on a hastedly built raft
waiting at the river's edge.
That's my theory.
I'm planning to go tomorrow, IF the wind dies. I think it's suppose be 7-12 MPH. Better than 20-40 MPH gusts of last weekend.

LOL, did not see a raft but they may have been hiding on the other side of the river in camo and armed, but after they saw the shot I made desided to make a brake for it. :lool: I did have a witness but he is to busy laughing to tell anything, I will not live this one down for a long time.

There's nothing worse than having a "reliable" witness with an overly abuntant sense of humor.
I've lost more hogs due to them either gut shot or merely falling back into their hole after being shot.
I had one that I think died after laughing himself to death after I shot at him 8 times in one day. I hate when they make fun of my marksmanship...or the lack of it. Grrrrr.

Yea I know what you mean, A few years ago I emptied my 1022 into a ground hog and he still did not die, the last time I saw him he was hauling ass, laughing and I think he shot me the bird before going out of site, Good luck tommorrow.

Rained week before last.
Checking out some caves to explore this past weekend.

I'm loading some 55gr. V-MAX's as I type. May go to the range tomorrow to see how they do.
It's cold as crap here and windy.
Maybe tomorrow will be better.

Any luck lately, I will be going up to a freinds house in northwest VA. in a few weeks to try again, he says that he has already seen a ton of them moving on the back side of a mountain near his house. Hopefully I will get a few of them.

I haven't been in a while. My hunting buddy had surgery a week ago, and I'm waiting for him to recoup.
I did make it to the range to try some new loads. I settled on 23.8 grs. of 3031 behind Hornady's 55 gr. V-MAX. Grouped great! 5 shot @ 100 yds. measured less than an inch. I'll see what it does out past 100 yds. when I go to the field.
I have 3 hogs living in the back yard, one is a monster, but I won't shoot them. They're fun to watch through the scope. Dry fire excercises are fun when you have real targets. :big:

Good luck to your buddy, hope he recoop's quick. Let me know how the hornady v-max does, I have been stuck on georgia arms 55. grain ballistic tips for my AR, and as for those hogs in the back yard, you are a better man than I am, I would have put the heat on them PDQ. good luck, and looking forward to some pics.

I took these pics with a dig camera through a pair of binoculars. Hi Tech equipment. lol
This one lives in the rocks to the right in the bottom pic. About 15 yds. from the house.

Well, scratch one of the 6 pigs living in the yard. My pooch got one of the babies yesterday and the buzzards are feasting. 5 left.

By night, he wants to play with his ball he's had since he was a pup.
By day, he's a ruthless KILLER...LOL

He's a great pal.
Today, Johnny and a hog were running full bore towards the barn with Johnny on his heals. The hog made it under the door and Johnny slid into it.... LOL.... It's the funniest thing I've seen from him in a while.

I just got my first ground hog with the 17m2, and it sucks. It took five rounds to stop the hog, at less than 50yds. FIVE DAMN rounds, this thing is for sale right know. I thought at first that maybe it was not sighted in properly, or I just got a bad shot, NOT, this round would not go straight through a, at best 10 pound hog. well time to go 22mag hunting again wonder what I will end up with this time.

Hey GJ,
I never had much faith in the killing power of the M2, and not a whole lot more in the 17 HMR. That's the reason I shoot a 223 now instead of the rimfires. It seemed like all the shots I needed to take were beyond the killing range of the 17.
Gearjammer
06-23-2007, 05:55 PM
Yea I hear you on that, but I thought that at a distance of less than 50yds the 17 would do the job on a hog that small. I learned my leason!

That's cheating... LOL
I haven't been since the soy beans got too tall.
I'll go again after the beans are harvested.
I've been laughing my butt off watching my pooch chase the pigs here in the yard. He had one pinned 3 times last week, but the pig made it back to his hole.
He sits at my computer room window that faces one of the holes, and when he sees one come out he goes nuts. hehe

The weather has started to cool off somewhat. From the 100's down to the 80's. I'll be going hunting again soon.
Johnny spotted a big pig in the yard yesterday while in my computer room. He nudged me to let him outside. He got into his stalking stance (like a cat stalking a bird) and got within 7 feet of the pig before he saw Johnny. Johnny cut him off from his hole, so I ran outside with the camera to get a close up, but I was too slow in taking the pic. The hog made it back to his hole. :(
I did get this one fron the inside. He got about 2 feet closer after I took the pic.
He's a groundhog dog for sure.
