1. I finally found the bayonet that went with my 1917 (barrel gun I bought in 1959) Spanish Mauser.

2. This is a 7mm which I took my first deer down with. I loved this gun. It knocked me on my ass a youngster until I learned how to hold, and clean it.

3. Bayonet is white metal I found at a gun show. Has Waffenfabrik and serial number. Came with scabbard and a frog.:D :) :D :D :D

That's cool you've kept that rifle so long. I can aprreciate that.
You've owned that rifle three years longer than I've been alive!

1. Vic Morrow and Combat was the rage on TV and all the kids were playing army. This was a barrel gun for $10.00. My dad let me pick it out so I could have it to play war.

2. I thought I was cool, the only kid on the block with a real gun.

3. It became a Fireplace Curio until I needed a gun to go deer hunting with. My Grandfather laughed because he told me I could go with him and my uncle if I had a gun. i pulled that down and told him I was ready. We found some ammo and off we went. The first time I test fired it, it knocked me on my ass.

I stumbled across 'Combat' when cable first came out. I think I saw every show. Pretty funny how all the regulars always made it through the slim-odds fight but the green guy always got whacked.

Great story about the rifle.

Could you even IMAGINE that happening today???You'd never play with any neighborhood kids again :( That's if you survived being shot by the local cops......

Excellent point! Man oh man. I was thinking about how I used to run around with my .22 when I read that. I didn't even think about how it is today....dang things have really gone down the tubes in the last 30 years. Sad, very very sad. I'm going to bed now and dream of the good 'ol days.

My father also bought me a barrel gun. It was a carcano for $12.95. No ammo available. I was 14 at the time. I later move to a larger town and took the rifle and walked downtown to the local hardware store to get the owner to order some ammo.
The local police stopped me about a block from the hardware store and asked what I was doing. I told him and he said ok and went on. No problem.

Good story NeilWest. I too was a Combat junky when it was on the first time. I use to have a Combat Thompson made by Mattel. It was pretty darn cool. I can't remember what happened to it though we moved and it seemed to disappear.

On how things have changed here's my story. My senior year in high school for Halloween I went to class dressed in my buckskins. Also I was carrying my hand built real design Hawken rifle in 56 caliber, patch knife, riflemans knife and tomahawk. Powder horn too, though it was empty.

Can you imagine what would happen to a kid that did that today! Nobody said anything execpt . . . "cool costume"! Teachers didn't freak and I walked past the Princepal too!:D

1. YEA, I too had the Buckskins with Hawken, Coonskin Cap, and apowderhorn. I remember being confused when Fess Parker started playing Daniel Boone. He couldnt be Daniel Boone, he was DAVY CROCKETT DAMN IT.

2. My first Mattel product was the Fanner Fifty with bone handles and real leather holster. I saved my money for months to get that. I still remember it cost $7.50. A big amount back then.

3. I guess Ive always loved my guns:p
