1. Picked up my Carcano today, and was given a sporterized(butchered) mauser. They couldnt tell me what caliber or anything about it so they gave it to me.
2. After much steelwool and elbow grease I came up with a proofstamp on receiver of a crown with Fabrica de Armour circled under it. The date appears to be either 1913 or 1933, Im not sure as it is worn. It has baked on enamel and thats about it.
3. I will try to post pics later. Question, does anybody know what caliber, 7mm is to sloppy and 8mm wont fit?:(
4. P.S. Never trust your gundealer. It is a 7mm. I was going by what he said, but when I tried the 8mm it wouldnt seat. The 7mm was perfect and ejected properly.
5. I steel wooled the remainder of the barrel and receiver and baked it for about 20 minuites. Sprayed on the Hight Temp black engine paint and she looks beautiful. The paint is hard as nails. Not sure what the baking does but it do good.:D :D

neilwest,
On a hunch, I guessed South American - between 7mm and 8mm is 7.65 x 53 / 7.65 x 54.
Still only a guess. The only relevant 'hit' for "Fabrica + Mauser" was like a "What things do you remember from your childhood?"
And I got this:

Los Fusiles Mauser de los colimbas.

The Rifles Mauser of the colimbas.
I'd venture that 'de los colimbas' is "The Columbians?" Anyway, here's an English link with some mauser info:

edit: durn it, neil, you figured it out while I was surfin' :)

1. this thing will definitly be a shooter or a good deer rifle. They butchered the stock. Someone sawed it off about six four inches above the receiver and then plug it with a dowl.
2. They filed down the sling lugs and replaced them with a set of quick release slingsets you buy at the gundealer or walmart. They didnt even center the damn things. But what does one want for free.
3. Just ashame to destroy a beautiful rifle. I have puttied up the sling holes and will attempt to redrill a set of new ones.
4. If I can figure out for sure what it is I could see if Brownells has a replacement stock.
5. I'll post pics later this evening when the putty dries.

1. I redid the barrel with new enamel and reblued that which needed rebluing. I'll bet she was beautiful before mutated.

1. You got that right. I wonder if I can get a replacement stock for it?
2. Now you know why they gave the thing away:p :D
3. I think I'll name in Mogadishu. It looks like something the natives would carry doesnt it.
4. I was thinking of giving it to Redstar, He never did get his K-98, maybe he'll adopt this orphan;) ;) :D

Sure looks like a Spanish M93 7mm Mauser to me. If it cocks on closing, it most likely is.
The 7.65 Argentine (M95 Mauser) was made for a Mauser that had a magazine like your Carcano, but a bolt like the M93.
My bet is it's an M93 in 7mm.

I was thinking, maybe this rifle would be a good gun to put one of those synthetic stocks on that (I think) CDNN is selling. Have you seen them? They look really kool.
I wish I had a picture of it to post.

1. I was scanning brownells and Cheaper then Dirt catalogs. They have the synthetic which would be good for this as the barrel and receiver etc is in excellent condition. But they dont distinquish between K-98 type and the 7mm. I was wondering if it would make a difference?

Yeas, the M93 action is alot different in dimensions than the M98 action. Also, I don't know if it makes any difference, but the military barrel is stepped down versus tapered (a Mauser trademark).
You may be stuck with your "Bubba Art" military hack down stock.
If it were me, I would try to find a full military stock and return it to original form.

1. Ok, now I am laughing.
2. I do think that an original would be great, perhaps I need to find another barrel gun and switch stocks out.
3. Anybody got an old 7mm, wait I moderate a For Sale forum, Stupid me!!!:D :D

Mauser had three distinctive models that i know of. The Model 1893 (Spanish), the 1895 (Argentina), the Model 1896 (Swedish), and the 1898 (Germany and pretty much the whole world).
They also had a Model 1909 Argentine, which was really a M98 action built for Argentina. That is one of the finest built, smoothest operating Mauser bolt actions I have ever owned. Those were made by Deutsche Waffen und Munitions (DWM) in Berlin and the quality is excellent.
