For the record, I've been an AR-15 snob for about 5 years now (have 2 pre-ban Bushmasters). Never had anything against AKs, I just preferred my "superior" ARs instead. It wasn't until I saw the add for Gunsmoke's AK-103 rifles on AR15.com that I finally got interested. After all, it is a black rifle http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif. After doing some research I decided to go with the Krebs Custom. I kinda preferred the AK-103, but KUSA only had a 103K at the gunshow and I needed one real bad! In retrospect, I love my 103K and wouldn't trade it for the longer version.
Well, I finally got to pop my cherry this weekend. Woohoo, how have I lived this long without an AK? This thing is phenomenal!!
* Ammo - Used the standard Russian Wolf ammo that's cheap as hell. Before I knew it, me and my friends blew through 500 rounds. Good thing I left the other 500 rounds at home, or I would be out.
* Reliability - As you may have already guessed, this beauty functioned flawlessly. Every round chambered, every round went bang, and every casing ejected. As much as I love my ARs, I cannot say they were near as reliable during their first 500 rounds.
* Accuracy - I find myself thinking that the only thing affecting AK accuracy is the sights themselves. I was getting 3 to 4 inch groups at 50 yards with the iron sights. Mind you, this was my first time ever firing an AK type rifle, so I don't know if this is good or bad. I didn't have any sight adjustment tools with me, but luckily, the windage was dead-on. For elevation I was able to adjust the rear sight and get a good zero. When I mounted up the Cobra sight though, everything changed. When I tried, I could get a 1" group at 50 yards. I was able to rapid fire (from the bench) 30 rounds within about 6 inches using the Cobra sight. I believe the reason the Cobra is better than iron is simply because that little red dot is no where near as big on the target as the iron sights. I bet with some modified iron sights my AK could come close to an AR for accuracy.
Conclusion -
I may have overpaid for a Krebs Custom, but as near as I can tell, it's everything it's cracked up to be. Fit and finish are good enough for my tastes. Reliability was perfect. I am simply in love with my new baby.
