A lot of Saiga shotgun owners have inquired about the pistol-grip versions, which unfortunately are civilan-owner illegal.
How many of you would be interested in a Dragunov-style buttstock, similar to the AK/SKS models offered by Choate and Fiberforce? Kalashnikov USA Ltd. has one on the drawing board (they've completed the model from which the mold will be made), but have not as yet commenced production (financial priorities).
If enough of us contact them, maybe we can convince them to get the ball rolling. I'm very interested in this, as I feel that the new stock would be an improvement ergonomically and visually.

Pete Thomsom is the G.M., though he's out of the country at the moment. The other fellow to write (or talk) to is Steve (darned if I haven't forgotten his last name!). He's the one who wants this project to see the light of day.

I already ordered and paid for my Saiga-12. I hope that the stock is offered as an option down the road. I would pick one up.

Any of you guys contacted Steve yet? I just wrote him again - and included this message page to show him that these stocks are definitely a desired item. If enough people bug him he'll get the ball rolling with this.
It really is a shame that the pistol-grip version is illegal. But it falls in the "banned" category since it has at least two "evil assault" features (the other being a detachable magazine). However, if someone comes out with an American-made parts kit I would think they'd be able to be legalized (just like the AK's). The problem on the standard-stock version is the trigger location; it is much closer to the end of the receiver than on the pistol-grip one. So converting one of these would probably run into some additional bucks. This is another reason the Dragunov stock is a good idea.
I still don't understand why a mag capacity of over 5 rounds is illegal for us peasants. Many tube-mag shotguns can be had with up to 10-rd. cap. What's the difference? And what's "more" lethal, 10 rounds of 00 buck/slugs or 30 rounds of 7.62 or .223? I'd be happy with an 8-rd capacity on my Saiga-12. Maybe someday...

A U.S. parts kit would be meaningless. The restrictions for semi-auto shotguns have nothing to do with the country of manufacture.

My Saiga-12 arrived yesterday. It is very well built. The barrel is ridiculously long and will have to be fixed, but otherwise I like it.
As for the stocks, I would like a black synthetic Thumbnail stock. To be honest, I think that a wooden Dragunov stock would look ridiculous on this weapon, so I don't want it. A black synthetic stock would be great though.

the '94 crime bill says that semi auto detach mag shotguns can NOT have a capacity over 5 rounds, 5 rnds is also the sporting limit when hunting
they dont want people making street sweeper shotguns with drums, this shotgun is now classified as a destructive device, kinda like a class 3 FA

and on the 8th day GOD made the AK-47 and saw that this was good

Gimme gimme. When and if they offer one, I'll buy it! Like SouthernShark said, a wooden one would look rediculous. I would go with a black synthetic.

There could be light at the end of the tunnel. Here is a message I just got from K-USA:
We've made the model for the mould. Now it needs the mould to be made from it.
They're expensive, but we should do it.
I'll pressure the boss again.
Best Regards,
Peter / Kalashnikov
Hopefully, its a go!!! Now everybody write them and bitch and whine about them hurrying this thing up.

We will talk to Peter tomorrow (like we don't talk to him at least twice a week anyway) and push this. It seems to be growing in popularity. Peter called here today, but I didn't see this forum posting until later, so I didn't get a chance to talk to him about it. Keep e-mailing him requests for it!!!!

When tou do talk to him, don't forget those of us that are blessed to own a Saiga in 308,or are the stocks interchangeable between the shotguns and the rifles. If so,I'd like to buy anybody's black stock set,as long as it's cheap.

I'll still gladly buy one if they'll make it. Hell, I'll even pre-pay/order.

Hello. There is some possibly bad news regarding dragunov stocks for semi-auto shotguns. I have recently heard from different sources that the BATF has defined the dragunov stock as a 'pistol grip stock.' If so, kiss any ideas for a dragunov shotgun stock goodbye.

Tin Man,
You've got to be kidding! What will these bozos dream up next? Will all thumbhole stocks be outlawed This is ridiculous.
As far as the Kalash. USA project goes, it doesn't look good. Peter Thomson recently quit the company, so we may never see this stock produced. I even wrote a letter to Choate suggesting they contact K. USA and buy the prototype from them; then they could make the thing (assuming this would be less expensive than desigining and fabricating their own prototype). I have yet to receive a reply.
As far as I know, this stock was also supposed to fit the Saiga rifles; I'd think that, cosidering the number of Saiga rifles and shotguns on the market, the stock would sell well enough to make it a worthwhile financial venture.
I'd love to have one of these on my Saiga-12. Not only would it look great, the grip angle would be more comfortable. I'm saying my prayers right now! http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/smile.gif

The problem is, under the law, there is no way you can legally attach a pistol grip to a semi-auto shotgun. Domesticly produced or not, these shotguns are expressly forbidden to have pistol-grips of any kind, unless they're LEO/Military only models. If it were legal to put dragunov stocks on a semi, you would likely see Remington, Mossberg, and the like producing such. You CAN put a dragunov shotgun stock on a pump-action shotgun and Brownell's sells such a unit for most every make/model of pump out there.

Tim is right on the money..it's illegal. ATF considers this a pistol grip. Hard to believe that K-USA wasn't aware of this.

The pistol-grip designation for dragunov stocks came after the assault weapons ban, so any thumbhole out there is grandfathered in. Don't worry if you own an SLR95 or the like, they're all 100% legal grandfathered. Shotguns though, unless you have one that has a receiver with a serial number before the enactment date of the semi shotgun pistol-grip ban, cannot have a pistol grip of any kind. Zip. Nada. Nope.

on a saiga they are farther back, ie not under the action so maybe they are legal
