I got a new SLR-95 recently and would like to mount a red dot scope on it. most mounting sysems for the ak appear unstable. I have seen ad in SGN for the gas tube mount but at almost $100. seems a little pricey. Does anyone else know what might work and where I could obtain it.

The only military system with battlefield tested success, used for over 30 years on Russian and Warsaw Pact AK rifles (as well as the SVD sniper rifle) is the side mount rail system. All original optics, both day and heavy night vision equipment, designed for the AK use this design. For use on your rifle, you will have to install a side plate (rail) that will take most of the types of optics you will find that are specifically designed for these applications. There are both rivet types, and those slightly modifed from these that can be secured with special screws. Once installed, no screws are visible, and the installation looks factory.

I did not want to drill the receiver, so I used the B-Square receiver mount. It attaches to both sides of the receiver and is very, very stable. It just does not disconnect nearly as fast as the side mount.

I had a side mount rail mounted on my SLR-95MB with screws so I could use the Cobra red dot sight. I have nothing but praise for that system. My rifle is very accurate and compares with my bolt gun for accuracy at 100 yards. I shot this 4 shot group at a 100 yards on a bench rest while shooting Wolf 123 gr. HP.
