no receivers have ever been available for the svd,and also if you did somehow manage to get a rec.what are you putting on it?because you don't have a russian svd kit,and kits were never sold, because russia did not destroy svd's they sent them out to other countries, after they are not battle worthy, they are cannibilized for parts for other svd's to live!!take care, krinkov

also the rifle term is dragunov or [snaiperskaya/vintovka/dragunova]not drag[a]nov] easier to say just svd model.its always good to get the terms correct.because there is so much to remember on these subjects, the spelling and terms somehow gets lost, like romak 3 or fpk/psl/ak series sniper,ndm-86 type 79.yugo m/90 series, and so on.i'm sure you get the point, good luck in whatever your searching for, take care, krinkov

In addition to Krinkov's info, the Romanian PSL/FPK is not a Dragunov/SVD copy or variation (even though most dealers call it a "Romanian Dragunov"). The Dragunov/SVD uses a short stroke piston and tappet gas system similar to the Tokarev SVT40,while the Romanian rifle is basically a big Ak and uses the typical long stroke piston gas system.

What type of Recievers do the Romanian ones have. And what Type of Recievers do the Russian Draganov Rifles have. And is the Russian Draganov recievers avail in the U.S.
It would seem that your main question was never answered. The SVD receiver is unique and is milled. The FPK/PSL receiver is sheet metal and is based on the AKM/RPK

oh!!!ekie you take all the fun out of these posts, and spoil it,nothing better then to see some posts and never really answer the true question, that has been asked twenty times, and answered thirty plus times in the past, its easy hit the back pages,oh yes now my big one, what year again was the dragunov rifle started?and the year supplied in abundance to the soviet army rifle teams?and first used in north vietnam by the n.v.a. regular troops?and the first c.i.a. pick-up model discovered?and are any in country under the year of manufacture date earlier then 1972 dated?see all the fun questions, take care, krinkov

Well, ahhhh hmmmm, I think the SVD was introduced in 1968. As for the rest of the questions I would start by asking you, hehehehehehehe. One thing I know is that the SVD is the first purpose built, ground up, sniper rifle.

ekie you get a /a+ grade, the dragunov was the first set up and designed from the ground up so to speak as a sniper model,66-67 was the adoption date, saw small scale service at first, into the 1970 year then had widespread use,not sure of the date,on the c.i.a.'s model russian svd, nobodies talkin,or who had known anything at the time is probably deceased,i know of none captured from the so called hunter teams of n.v.a.snipers in nam, many mosin nagants were taken but very few russian svd's and by the time china developed their own,the conflict was over in april 1975,china's model came five years later, well take care, krinkov

Sorry that it took so long to respond. The in-laws were in town. Thanks for the “A”. It would seem that your grading standards are a little low in the interest of having a good discussion of the SVD. Hehehehe
I had not thought much about the chronological progression of Western intelligence on the SVD. You see the first book I bought on small arms was INFANTRY WEAPONS OF THE WORLD by Christopher F. Foss & T J Gander. I bought this book at the age of 12 in 1979. By this time most of the mystery behind the SVD was solved. There were of course several issues that came to light much later such as the proper ammunition and corresponding head stamps, accuracy potential, and what weapons where considered besides Dragunov’s design.
In contrast I closely followed Western reports of the fielding of the AK-74. These reports where often greatly flawed and exaggerated. The above mentioned book contained a grossly mistaken paragraph on the AK-74 that looked to be sourced from US Army propaganda. The US Army’s conjecture on the AK-74 was similar to that of the T-80 MBT.
I am not sure but would guess that the SVD was not given a similar treatment due to the lack of consequence given to sniper systems in the 60’s and 70’s by the US Army. Or did they?

wait a freakin' minute here. I picked up the first captured drag, myself...personally! i won it in a drunken card game in tijuana in 1956. a drew 5 aces and ended up having to use my "winnings" to snipe my way out of that smoke filled bar room. may have injured a few innocent senoritas...as the drag was shooting left a 5 yds.! damn cia confiscated it at the san diego border...bastards only gave me $300 for it...said that was twice what it was worth!
