I had a Colt HB "Sporter" in 7.62x39... I can't recall the spread at 100m etc, but it was plenty accurate... more accurate than I could typically shoot... but, yeah.. finding good quality high-cap mags was the problem...

DPMS makes a fairly accurate 7.62x39MM and their mags are good enough, but seriously why bother spending that kind of money on an AR type when the SKS's or AK's are still fairly reasonable priced?....

The DPMS ones shoot good (2-3 inches @100m)but finding a high cap mag is the hard part. If you get one, get a flat top as the sights on the AR platform are made for the 5.56 round.

With the current price of ammo, I'd like a 5.45 upper!!!

Doesn't Olympic Arms have a 7.62x39 AR? Do the groups tighten up with a 7.62x39 AR platform? But it would have to be a real shooter to justify paying twice as much or even more.

Olympic does have an upper right now. Talk to the guy at www.oa2.org they are great guys over there. They also like AKs. A lot of those guys build all kinds of ARs.

I've got a Model 1 Sales 7.62 upper on a Noveske lower. I do like the rifle, and it gives me an accuracy with the 7.62 round that I could never count on with the AK or SKS.
Mags are a problem. The MWG plastic mags (which I believe are what DPMS sells) are very unreliable. I've had decent luck with Colt 5 round mags and loading 7 rounds in a regular 5.56 mag.
Yeah, I'm waiting on C Products, too.

I'm waiting, too.
Recently, on GunBroker, I purchased a supposed 15-round 7.62x39 magazine listed as ProMag, but I'm not certain that is the real mfg.
If it is any good, I'll let you know.
I imagine much of the increased accuracy comes from the better barrels and the difference in the gas and recoil systems of the Stoner design.
With the correct Receiver Extension, Buffer weight, and Action Spring, I imagine that follow-up shots are hands-down better in the AR system.
If I can get the Gunsmoke Enterprises pistol buffer system to work, I may go shorter than an 11.5" bbl., with a PWS FS/Compensator.

Never got around to that, but back in mind to try.
Anyone else do anything 7.62x39 in AR, recently?

Gotmine 7.62x39 Mag Three Weeksago From C Products 30 Rd And Just TRIED Them Today Work Great No Jams In Four Mags . There Stainless And Have A Nice Curve To Them There About 1 1/2 In Longer Than The .223 . The Last Round Seem To Be TIGHT And SEENS TO Bottom Out The Mag . I Think It Is A Good Buy And The Price (28.00) And Wait, Worth It Order Four More

I see that SPORTSMAN'S GUIDE has this upper in their latest catalog.
If I decided to get it, would I need special magazines?

Did an online search and see I'd have to buy different mags.
44Mag has 30 rounders at $19.95.
Also am wondering "how" the laquered Ruskie ammo would be in the chamber?
I've heard of gumming problem with .223 in AR's.

I have a Stag lowered, DPMS uppered 7.62 AR that runs on C-products 10 and 30 rounders. It has some feeding issues, but is quite accurate. I believe the feeding issues are magazine related. I may sell the barrel and bolt and put it back to 5.56. Its a 20" with a Krink style brake.
